The envelope. please! The time has come to reveal the winners for the Team Experience Awards. When it came to the nominations, three movies each earned ten nominations a piece (Dune, The Power of the Dog, West Side Story). Did one of them emerge victorious, or did a David defeat these three Goliaths? Let's dive into the winners...

Jane Campion's Netflix western earned the top prize from the team, as well as Best Director.

We used the preferential ballot for this category only. Under this ruling, a movie must receive over 50% of the vote in order to win. With each round, the movie with the least number of votes gets removed and their ballot moves on to the second ranking, and so on. For this category, The Power of the Dog was the clear winner, as we only needed two rounds for it to reach the requisite number of votes.

This was the closest race by far. Four of the five nominees were neck and neck, with only one vote separating the winner from the rest of the pack.

This category was the biggest blowout of them all. Dune nearly got all of the votes from the team.

FUN FACTS 

• Of the 41 films that earned nominations, only nine won awards. The following films were: The Power of the Dog (6 wins), Dune (4 wins), Parallel Mothers (3 wins), Flee (3 wins), Titane (1 win), The Tragedy of Macbeth (1 win), Mass (1 win), Passing (1 win) and Summer of Soul (...Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised (1 win).
• West Side Story entered the ballot with ten nominations. In the end, it pulled a Color Purple and lost all ten. It came closest to winning the Music category.
• Despite winning three awards, Parallel Mothers was the only Best Picture nominee to not receive a single #1 vote in the preferential ballot for Best Picture.
• Other than the Sound and Visual Effects category (where Dune and 1-2 competitors dominated), only two nominees failed to receive a single vote.

Mass winning ensemble was very refreshing as was the Plimpton instead of Dowd nod,I can't understand how Martha isn't amongst the locks in Supporting Actress.

Gotta disagree with Dune's win for production design. I much prefer Stockhausen's works this year. I'm surprised The Power of the Dog wasn't even nominated here. Sad to see West Side Story blanked but also not surprising.

Wow to Flee pulling off the trifecta of Animated, Documentary, and Non-English Language Film (albeit tied in the latter). I think it's shaky whether or not it gets nominated in all three categories at the Oscars, but if it does, I actually think a lot of voters might jump at the opportunity to make history by giving it at least two of the three (International Feature seems out of reach, but there's certainly a chance it could win both Animated and Documentary Feature).

Flee is so far the best documentary I've seen and as far as non-English language films go, I do like it much better than Drive My Car, but I'm hoping A Hero makes it in - nothing is a certainty - after all, it was left out here. But I was unimpressed with Flee's animation. It was pretty basic and unimaginative. I won't be overly disappointed if it doesn't make it into the Animated Film category. Two out of three would still be pretty impressive and deserved.

I love that Penelope and Ruth Negga took top honors. Their performances really are some of the best of the year.

I will say, I don't get all the love for Kodi Smit-McPhee. He's fine, but I think what works about his character is embedded in other elements of the film. I think if you'd put most actors his age in that role with Jane they'd probably make the same choices.

Everyone else seems to have loved FLEE a lot more than I did and DRIVE MY CAR a lot less than I did. Sure, FLEE was good...but it was not my choice, or even my #2 choice, for either documentary or foreign film. (I didn't vote for animated film.)

Joe G - I hear ya. I think he (KSM) is good, but not this level of awards dominance good.

Otherwise, though, these are a solid set of winners, even where they differed from my ballot. :) Good job, team!

I just saw The Power of the Dog. I will be shocked if it wins Best Picture (but I did like it).

I was hoping Amy Shumer would get in the shortlist for Best Supporting Actress.

Re: Kodi - I think he did great work, but overall the dominance is probably more because of the character and his function within the story. His character becomes way more fascinating when it turns.

Plus, he’s in a major Best Picture player and for whatever reason, it seems that’s the category people have decided will be dedicated to rewarding PotD no matter what.
