April Foolish Pt 4 - Who might be in the 'Best Supporting Actor' discussion?

We all agree that Best Supporting Actor is the dullest of Oscar's Big Six, right? But it doesn't have to be! Too often the final lineup leaves a lot to be desired. But for the first Oscar predictions of the year, before much is known about the movies themselves, let alone their supporting* characters we can imagine all sorts of possibilities. Whose role are you most intrigued about? I'm most curious which never-nominated actor will join the club this year. Here's to hoping that Barry Keoghan, Brian Tyree Henry, Glynn Turman, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Harry Melling, Idris Elba, Colin Farrell, and even Chris Rock (no, really) MIGHT have the kind of roles that could get them there. They also might not (of course) but these are the April Foolish Predictions so you have to guess while essentially blindfolded.

You may have noticed that neither Leonardo DiCaprio or Jesse Plemons are on this chart. As far as we can tell Killers of the Flower Moon is a two-lead film. Obviously films don't campaign two leads in the same category anymore (sigh) but we're not about to encourage the powers that be to commit category fraud so until campaigns tell us otherwise our new policy is to put them in the correct category.

Rooting for Ke Huy Quan!
I’m also rooting for Ke Huy Quan. Let’s put him up into one of the tiers with a photo.
I don't know about the Oscars, but Ke Huy Quan is probably a lock for my personal Best Supporting Actor ballot.
Not that familiar with Barry Keoghan, but he needs to star in a Lyle Lovett biopic. Soon.
Has anyone else noticed this?
As frequently as category fraud is brought up on this site (daily, it seems), it's odd that no one seemed to mention that this year's Oscar nominees included 10 legitimately supporting performances.
I actually love that Willem Dafoe has gotten early Oscar buzz for almost everything he’s done in the past 5 years. The Florida Project really reminded people how much they want him to win an Oscar (I’m still sour that he didn’t get nominated for The Lighthouse even if they did go full category fraud for him). As much as I love that De Niro actually seems to be challenging himself again after a long time of taking almost exclusively paycheck roles, if it comes down to the two of them, I’d much rather Dafoe get an Oscar than De Niro get his third.
Keoghan should have WON this award several years ago for The Killing of the Sacred Deer.
Keoghan is so good in everything. He seems like a Jesse Plemons or Jessie Buckley, an actor "ready" for a nomination.
Ke Huy Quan is getting SO nominated (and probably win) unless A24 messes the campaign BIG time. Just look at his narrative: iconic child actor from iconic films that had to RETIRE due to lack of opportunities for Asian actors (despite being ICONIC), and makes a comeback ONLY AFTER Asian representation increases in Hollywood, gets his first role in decades, knocks it out of the park, embodying several characters in one movie that is also considered one of the CENTURY'S best right away upon its release.
Really who can beat that narrative? I'd say he would be just a nominee if he went lead - even though he could win that, too - but as Supporting he might be unbeatable. I am having Yeoh and Quan on #1 (as the Original Screenplay and Film Editing) till precursors start proving me wrong.
Paul Dano seems to me an obvious nominee,caring father role,Speilberg,lots of good performances behind him,former snub,a teen actor grown into adult roles and less so The Batman.
What about David Strathairn in Where the Crawdads Sing? I haven't read the book so I don't know if his role is large enough for a nomination.
And is there a chance for Stanley Tucci in the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody?
Strathairn and Tucci are two of the best actors of their generation. They are way overdue for a TRUE supporting actor Oscar. The Academy should find a way to put a end to category fraud.
If Butch Cassidy were made today, Redford would be submitted as Supporting!
