Final Episodes of 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot'

little change of scheduling for "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" with no episode this week.

1) watch the movie
2) pick your favourite shot (whatever you think is "best" however you would define that)
3) post it, with or without an explanation wherever you play online #bestshot

FINAL TWO EPISODES

Post before Thursday June 23rd Klute (1971) streaming on HBOMax
Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland star as a call-girl and the detective following her, respectively, in this paranoid classic. Leading up to the "Best Shot" post on we'll do a tag team retrospective. In other words it's a Klute week (June 20th-23rd) for its 51st anniversary (yes, we're kicking ourselves that we didn't do this last year) in our ongoing endeavor to get everyone to see this classic. If you've never done a "best shot" before but often thought of doing so, why not?

Post before Thursday June 30th SEASON FINALE Titanic (1997) streaming on Netflix
We have to watch this again for the next SUPPORTING ACTRESS SMACKDOWN so why not make a party out of it? Climb on that floating door with Rose -- there's room for everyone.

Ooh...so excited for the 1997 Smackdown!!! Methinks Moore is gonna win in a landslide but I have been wrong before.

Smackdown

1) Joan Cusack 5 hearts - expert comedic timing and line delivery.
2) Julianne Moore 4 hearts - unforgettable but kind of dilluted in an excellent ensemble (which ain't a bad thing at all)
3) Kim Bassinger 3 hearts and a half - solid, classic performance, the Oscar felt more like "this film should win something!"
4) Gloria Stuart 3 hearts - nice performance, moving at certain points, but hardly something really awards worthy... the nomination felt like a career achievement one, and still does
5) Minnie Driver 3 hearts - good performance but clearly overshadowed by her costars (all of them, if you ask me). I still wonder how she got nominated beyond the fact, that they loved the film.

Titanic's best shot? The dance with both leads spinning in the the 3rd class party. Engaging, makes you relate inmediately not only with them, but also with the passengers that are going to suffer the most, later on... increasing the dread of what's to come, while still being a joyful scene. Probably an underrated moment in what I feel most still underrate as a piece of art... Titanic is not only the biggest film of 97... it is a masterpiece.

I have said it many times before and will do so again on the smackdown and though I love Moore in BN the rightful owner of 97's statue is Sigourney Weaver's Janey Carver.

Apologies for the really nerdy question, but I have to ask:
When doing TITANIC for the Best Shot series do we go with the original 2.39 : 1 aspect ratio, or the re-release 1.78 : 1?

Claudio -- the rule of BEST SHOT is always to go with your favourite

Julianne Moore is easily my pick for the ‘97 Smackdown and is the only one of the five I would have nominated. Which is not to say any of the others are bad at all, but there were quite a few other performances that year I would’ve gone with over them. And I have frankly never understood why Kim Basinger won. She’s totally fine in the role, but it seems like she got nominated mostly by virtue of being the only significant female role in a very male-centric movie and won because it turned out she was the only cast member who got nominated despite it being hailed as the year’s best ensemble (even though it wasn’t). No offense to Kim Basinger, but I can’t imagine she had any sort of “overdue” momentum to propel her to a win. Definitely feels more like a consolation prize for the movie and its cast.

For Klute i'd pick any scene in the club with Roy Scheider who is fantastic too in it.

Titanic the wide brimmed hatted Rose head shot.
