ICYMI - Best Picture "Split Decisions"

The "Split Decision" series was created by the Team here because we realized nobody ever fully agrees on any movie; That's part of their fascination and the fun of awards season (if you keep it civil of course... which the internet tends to struggle with). The series will return soon with the final episodes on Top Gun Maverick and Women Talking but if you're just rejoining us we've already covered the other eight Best Picture nominees so we'd love for you to join the conversations on All Quiet on the Western Front (on Netflix), Avatar (in theaters), Banshees of Inisherin (in theaters and on HBOMax) Elvis (on HBOMax)  Everything Everywhere All At Once (on Showtime and rentable), The Fabelmans (in theaters & rentable), TÁR (rentable) and Triangle of Sadness (rentable).

When we started the series we didn't know what would be Best Picture nominated so we also discussed Babylon and The Whale. How far do you suppose they were from the Academy's top 10 vote getters? Or was something else vying for 11th?  Should we do the Split Decisions series again in the future? We'd love to hear your input.

I loved this series, am so grateful to everyone who contributed, and hope it gets reprised!

I thought this was a fantastic series, personally. It was great to not only hear differing opinions on these movies, but sometimes it was great to just know there were strong (or at least strongish) feelings on both sides. I hope the series returns; honestly, I hope it doesn’t go away, and there can be some debates over classics at some point (maybe as part of any special anniversary celebrations, at least).

This is a terrific series. Often I read posts and feel isolated when my opinion is contrary to what is published. Split decision validates my view and creates a meaningful dialogue.

I also love this series. It was great reading thoughts on the movies, and it also opens up a space to discuss these movies after more of us have a chance to watch, so it is quite a wonderful idea.

I thought this was a very good idea, when passions ignite about movies it creates a good interactive discussion.

Maybe expand to inc acting something like the close call between Glenn and Olivia in 2018

Thanks for creating this sort of content.

Yes - this was a great series! Each piece was insightful and well articulated and some of the films led to really fun discussions in the comments thread.

I have enjoyed the series very much! I appreciate how much enthusiasm the writers have put into the writings. Please continue this series if possible. If the Smackdown is ending, this might be the new series to continue the legacy of discourse.

Personally, I felt this series was excellent. It was fantastic to hear different perspectives on these films, but sometimes it was even better to just know. Reading reviews of the films was enjoyable, and it creates a forum for discussion.
