A hard push for "80 For Brady". Will you see it?

Though the talk this time of year is mostly around Oscar, the new comedy 80 For Brady claimed some space of its own this week in the media as it gears up to open in theaters. The movie "inspired by the true story offour best friends living life to the fullest when they take a wild trip to the 2017 Super Bowl LI to see their hero Tom Brady play" premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. It's gorgeous quartet of superstars (pictured above) were there "FONDA! MORENO! TOMLIN! FIELD!" Between them they have 12 Emmys, 8 Golden Globes, 5 Oscars, 2 Grammys, 2 Tonys, and numerous other awards, nominations, special honors, and lifetime achievement prizes. But that's not all in 80 for Brady news...
We also learned this week that the film has an original song composed by awards-magnet Diane Warren called "Gonna Be You"... forcing us all too look more than a year beyond even the current Oscar rae.

In keeping with 80 For Brady's desire to force every Gay and every fan of Superstar Women of a Certain Age (yes yes there's a huge overlap on that Venn Diagram) to care about it, the song adds yet more stars. To that movie star quartet we add a quintet of iconic singers on the theme song:

“When I wrote ‘Gonna Be You’ for 80 FOR BRADY, I wanted to write a song that celebrated these women's deep friendship. Since 80 was in the title I got a crazy idea, why not get some of the most iconic singers from the 80s, who are still amazing and always will be, to all sing it?!!!! Everyone I approached said yes and was just as excited as me!! I'm honored to have Dolly Parton, Belinda Carlisle, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan and Debbie Harry on this song!! ‘Gonna Be You’ is that song you want to sing along to with all your good friends!!!”
We love an all-star project but this kind of movie begs for an in-film musical number instead of a starry end-credits song, don't you think? May the movie prove fun enough to deserve all nine of these incredible icons.
80 For Brady opens in theaters on February 3rd.

I will never forget that delicious Anjelica Huston interview where she said she’d never participate in a movie like this—the cringe old lady ensemble comedy. Every time they make a new one I think of her. We are not worthy!
As much as I hate it I can’t wait to hear the song, Belinda Carlisle is my queen.

It would have been more fun and even more realistic if the 4 women were tennis fans (some having played in their earlier years) who were going to Wimbledon to see Roger Federer who they adored before he retired.
Better costumes, better setting, more true to a dream, and with Roger (who is smart, nice, sensible, elegant, and speaks 4 languages). In the movie, Roger wins Wimbledon and they are there to see it.

We'll find out soon if seniors are willing to finally go back to theaters in significant numbers. I say play it on as many screens as possible in the 11AM, 1:30PM and 4PM slots and after the first weekend forget about showing in in the evenings. When I go theaters on weekdays at those times they seem to be filled, mostly, with the AARP crowd.
This movie looks beyond awful. And the trailer shows almost the entirety of the film, I assume.
I went to see "I wanna Dance With Somebody" and made a bet with my friend that if they showed this preview I would cuss my mother out at New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, I lost and had to behave.
I'm not happy with the Keatonization of Fonda.
Yeah, the football/Tom Brady of it all is meh. But I'm sure I'll eventually see this on cable or streaming or in an airplane. Looking forward to the song though.
For those asking about Keaton, don't forget in May we're getting the sequel to BOOK CLUB starring Keaton, Candace Bergen, Mary Steenburgen, and of course Fonda.
No. Not now. Not ever. I would rather watch old episodes of What's My Line on loop with screen icons in their dotage such as Greer Garson, Irene Dunne, and Tallulah Bankhead, than to watch a single minute of this, Plus, I detest football and Tom Brady.
I'm much closer to the demographic this (and Book Club etc) is aimed at than most of the contributors and commenters here at TFE, but no, hell no, not going to see this.

I’m a yes, and will probably be there on opening weekend. These types of films are fun with a crowd (as most comedies are) and it just feels great to see legends on screen having fun. If it’s mediocre, that’s fine, but I’m mostly just excited to see these ladies have fun and still get work.
I agree with Dan H: this feels like a big test to see if seniors are really willing to head back to theaters.
