First & Last 041 - Seeing double

Can you guess the movie from its first and last shot? The answer is after the jump...

Yes, yes, dear reader, but... which one?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Yes, that's James Cameron's blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). But if you said Avatar (2009) you're forgiven because the first and last is practically the same! It also begins in the clouds and ends on Jake Sully's blue face, like so!

I'm willing to bet the third film (due for Christmas 2025) also does this and we'll see an international pattern.

The only film I saw twice in the theatre last year. It’s not perfect but it’s such a theatrical experience. It was a shame to see it only get 4 Oscar nominations. How does it miss Editing? That big battle in the third act is the perfect showcase for a superbly edited action sequence. And Cinematography…I’d argue the incredible underwater shots with Payakan were the most memorable of the year. Cannot wait for the Avatar 3.
