That's To Leslie (2022), the tiny movie that could in last year's Best Actress race. While this fact was temporarily lost in the controversies surrounding its successful grassroots Oscar campaign, Andrea Riseborough is really incredible in this movie as an alcoholic mess struggling to get her life back together and make amends with her son. She also made my own list for Best Actress last season. 

Did you see To Leslie before or after Oscar night? It's currently streaming on Netflix if you still haven't.

It's funny how iconic that opening shot is if you've seen the movie.
She really is fantastic in it - and the movie itself is as retro-90s indie as it gets, right down to its last act.

Saw it before Oscar night and although I agree she'd good in the film especially the scenes with her son I thought it copped out at the end plus she probably beat out my 2nd favourite of last years season Danielle Deadwyler.

Saw it before the Oscars. She's so good in it. Really happy about her nomination. As to the film, I get why some people think it "copped out", but not every movie has to be that sort of film. I was fine with its ending.

As a voter for the Independent Spirit Awards, I saw To Leslie prior to the brouhaha. I was not impressed. I am weary of Hollywood's fascination with actors portraying alcoholics. It seems those who explore degradation and accompanying nervous tics have a fast track to a nomination and occasionally a win. To me, Riseborough's angst and over the top emotional responses didn't deserve recognition over the nuanced work of the Black actresses snubbed. Frankly, I thought the performance of Allison Janney in To Leslie surpassed the work of Riseborough.
