On Alexander Skarsgard, devilishly handsome character actor

by Matt St Clair

One factor as to what kind of roles an actor receives, or whether they’re cast as lead or supporting players, is their looks. Consequently, that’s why you often see the likes of Tom Cruise headlining an action movie rather than someone like, say, John Malkovich. The practice of traditional glamour leading to positioning for movie stardom has essentially been around since the birth of cinema.

Then again, sex appeal can also trap actors into a narrow box. This happens to beautiful stars ike Alexander Skarsgård. He said in a recent Sunday Times interview while promoting The Northman, that his sex symbol label has led to him not getting the kind of serious acting opportunities he’s craved...

Review: Haley Lu Richardson and Owen Teague in 'Montana Story'

by Matt St Clair

I've never been to Montana, being more of a metro/suburb-type person, but the luscious scenery always captured onscreen makes it compelling enough to want to explore. The deserted roads, the wide open spaces, the mountains accompanied by clear blue skies can make any Montana-set movie compelling even if the story isn’t. Happy 45th, Sarah Michelle Gellar !!!

As a way of celebrating this marvelous occasion, we’ll be taking a look at the three projects that came during her star-making year in 1997 and asserted her place in the scream queen pantheon along with such names as Jamie Lee Curtis, Adrienne Barbeau, and Neve Campbell.  The best one to start off with is the series that featured her career-defining role: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. What started off as a mid-season replacement for the show Savannah on the WB became a real game-changer for the landscape of television...

Review: Sebastian Stan devours horror-romance 'Fresh'

by Matt St Clair

The new horror/romance hybrid Fresh chiefly functions as a viable kidnapping thriller that still  gets one thing right about our modern dating scene. It can be a literal terror show. It’s especially horrifying in our era of dating apps. The constant hoping for a companion as you keep sending messages saying “Hello” that get no response can make you wonder if people read the actual profile. It’s easy to judge a book by its cover and message someone based on how they look in their photo. But do people bother to read our bios for a better idea on what we might be like?

As Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones) finds out the hard way, meeting people in real life can be just as rough...
