Review: Haley Lu Richardson and Owen Teague in 'Montana Story'

by Matt St Clair

I've never been to Montana, being more of a metro/suburb-type person, but the luscious scenery always captured onscreen makes it compelling enough to want to explore. The deserted roads, the wide open spaces, the mountains accompanied by clear blue skies can make any Montana-set movie compelling even if the story isn’t. Such is nearly the case with the aptly-titled Montana Story, from the filmmaking duo Scott McGehee and David Siegel (The Deep End, What Maisie Knew, Bee Season).

The story itself is pretty simple. Two distant half-siblings Erin (Haley Lu Richardson) and Cal (Owen Teague) attempt to reconnect and heal their troubled past as they say goodbye to their dying father...

74th Cannes. Red Carpet from Days 1-3

by Nathaniel R

We already covered opening night fashion so let's check in on days 2 and 3. Unfortunately we can't be as comprehensive as we once were in previous years. We used to live on the site Zimbio when they released enormous day-by-day galleries including basically every celebrity, whether they were famous internationally or not and every red carpet shot, whether or not it was a particularly good one including non-glam people like old film directors. They've done away with that section and now you have to look for specific people (so you have to magically know who might have attended each screening). Otherwise you can only see highlights (like every other site) which means you see the same very famous celebrities over and over again. And you lose some of the coolest sightings of rising stars or obscure stars from various countries who are not that famous outside of their home country. Which sucks for internationally minded cinephiles like us...  Ah well. On to the red carpet premiere lewks we did see...

Who gets your vote for best dressed from the first few days?

Which of these will '95 born actors will be Oscar-nominated first?

by Nathaniel R

Since it's 26 days until the Oscars we thought we'd look at 26 year-olds... or soon-to-be 26 year olds rather. Only one actor born in 1995 has been nominated to date. That'd be the internet's twink boyfriend Timothée Chalamet. But which other actors of the 1995 vintage will join him in receiving Hollywood's greatest stamp of approval? We've collected six potential suspects after the jump along with a few handful of alternates though it bears noting that the next big star born in '95 could very easily be someone who hasn't even made their first film yet since careers take time to build and Hollywood was forced to take a full year off of discovering new talent in 2020...

WHICH BORN IN '95 ACTOR WILL BE OSCAR NOMINATED NEXT?

23 days til Oscar!

The only (current) 23 year-old in the world who is also an Oscar-nominated actor if not this year

Can you believe we're less than a month from Hollywood's High Holy Night? Since today's magic number is 23, we're sharing a gallery of beauties related to that number starting with Timothée Chalamet. Now, he didn't make this year's Oscar list despite precursor attention for Beautiful Boy but he is still the only current 23 year-old who can claim the title "Oscar-Nominated Actor". Please enjoy this photo gallery of other number 23 related beauties after the jump...

Ten Reasons to Watch 'Support the Girls'

by Ilich Mejía

We interrupt your final Oscar Prediction anxiety and Nathaniel's own awards ballot for a very important public service announcement. Here are ten reasons you must watch Andrew Bujalski's feel-good-wait-nevermind-good-movies-are-complicated Support the Girls on Hulu right away.

Centered around a group of female employees working at a small breastaurant, Girls is unfairly only skirting around the awards conversation so you owe it this much. (We don't make the rules!) The movie gives us a gallery of portraits of too-real day-to-day troubles.
