45 Animated Shorts: Oscar Will Choose 10... Then 5.
This is the list of 45 animated shorts that the Academy is considering in the Best Animated Shorts category (with links to official sites when I could find them). The Animated, Docs, and Shorts Oscar page is going to be updated piecemeal this week as I work on beating all this information into some form of pundited submission.

Wow, thanks for this list! I love the Best Animated Short category. I've seen all of the winners multiple times, and I've been trying to see all of the nominees. (It's going to be hard considering one is presumed lost, but somebody online says he saw the film...somewhere out there.) I love the category not only because the films are short and normally easy to find, but you get such a wide variety of not only storylines but also animation styles.
Anyways, if anybody knows how I can find How War Came (1941), Rippling Romance (1945), Jamaica Daddy (1957), O misto na slunci (A Place in the Sun, 1960), Hypothesis Beta (1967), The Magic Pear Tree (1968), The Further Adventures of Uncle Sam: Part Two (1970), The Shepherd (1970), Dedalo (1976), Redux Riding Hood (1997), and Lorenzo (2004), I'd be much obliged.
One of my favorite Oscar season traditions is watching the Shorts (though Doc never makes it out where I live). Thanks for the list!
A couple of links for "Ente, Tod und Tulpe".

This seems to be a shortened version that was shown on German children's TV show "Die Sendung mit der Maus":

Hoping NFB means the ne here in Canada so I can check those out.
There's a movie theatre here that plays the nominated animated shorts weeks (days?) before the Oscars. Hoping I don't miss the boat unlike last year and many years before.
I Was A Child of Holocaust Survivors, huh?
We have a winner, folks. Everybody go home.
HOLD IT!
Ingrid Pitt: Beyond the Forest is another film about the adventures of an actress and Holocaust survivor that was animated by legendary animator Bill Plympton and a ten year old animation prodigy! It has a chance.
The Ballad of Nessie played before Winnie the Pooh in theaters and it is, if nothing else, absolutely adorable
The Renter is a keeper, and Birdboy has a lot going for it, even if I had a hard time fully embracing it.
For the past two years since they've started showing the live action and animated shorts nominees in theaters, I've watched them, and they've become a highlight of my Oscar season. Last year's crop was excellent. The moment I finished seeing "God of Love," I knew that it was winning live action short. A close second was "Na Wewe." I don't think "The Lost Thing" was the best in the lineup for animated short though. I thought for sure they'd pick "The Gruffalo" instead. So yes, I at least watch the nominees every year now. They should do this for the documentary shorts too. I'd love to watch those nominees.
I've updated the post with a couple more details and two links to full shorts online. maybe more to come. after reading up on some of these i'm like desperate to see them
MONSTER OF NIX is a musical with voice work from Tom Waits & Terry Gilliam. GAH!
ajnrules, I saw lorenzo in theatres as part of the shorts package, but haven't seen it anywhere since. How War Came was on youtube very lo-rez about two years ago, for about a month, then it got taken down. I got a chance to see it, but I haven't really, SEEN it.
External World is my super-early pick for the winner. It's pretty great, and is availible full online. Speaking of which, I'm gonna make a list of which of these I can find online down here if I get a chance, kay?
DUE TO TECH DIFFICULTIES ON MY END, THIS MAY BE A DOUBLE OR TRIPLE POST. IF IT IS, SORRY IN ADVANCE.

From A Shadow Of Blue: Stay tuned for next Friday, Nov 18th! The password to watch “A Shadow of Blue” (the whole film), will be shown in my official Facebook page wall for only 24 hours (starting Friday at 0:00 GMT+1) , before it is changed again... So watch for that!
I don't have time to get those links together, but here instead is my top 15 list of animations I think will be in the top 10
-Morning Stroll
-I Tawt I Taw A Putty Tat
-La Luna

God forbid that smurfs crap gets in...
Ah...it's a shame that I missed How War Came. I thought Jerry Beck had a copy of it in his Cartoon Research Garage Sale, but it wasn't there last I checked. I'm still annoyed Disney is screwing over Redux and Lorenzo.
I just copies and pasted this from my own comment at InContention, so forgive the overlap, but...
One of the interesting quirks of this category is how well Australian films do. "Harvey Krumpet", "Birthday Boy", "The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello" and "The Lost Thing" (two of which won). So I always suggest people look to the AFI (now known as AACTA) nominees for animated short. They curiously snubbed the universally acclaimed "The Cat Piano", but if we want to follow this logic then "Nullarbor" is definitely in with a good chance. It's the only of the four nominees at "the Australian Oscars" to be included amongst this longlist. Food for thought.
