20:11 Water For Hanna's Insidious Code
Year in Review Fun!. Herewith the 20th minute and 11th second of the movies of 2011 in chronological order of US release date. It's like flipping channels for snapshots of the film year! For those who like a challenge, I've written the film titles in invisible ink (you can highlight to see them) below the screencap. What kind of memories does this bring back? Do these tiny glimpses make you want to see the movies in question?
Part 4: April
Our records show that 1,812 calls ended at the moment of the explosion. 52 of those calls were tethered to the cell tower nearest the train so one of those calls was made by our bomber..."
SOURCE CODE ...reviewed in brief (10 words)
We'll conduct some further testing. It's only been a couple of days. It could take a little longer."
INSIDIOUS
My name is Dr. Burton. Would you like to talk to me?"
HANNA... this movie seemed very well liked by readers. And it was definitely a missed opportunity on this blog that we never properly discussed. Apologies!
Would you like to talk to Dr. Burton?
How about these other 2011 characters after the jump...?
[sound of squeaky wheel]
MEEK'S CUTOFF
[no dialogue]
RIO
Love is the most awkward of things. I thank heaven every day your father and I have been spared such trouble.
THE PRINCESS OF MONTPENSIER
[offscreen voice] SHOWTIME! SHOWTIME! Move it up, let's go!"
WATER FOR ELEPHANTS I reviewed this one. Everyone said I was too kind which, well, maybe... yes.
INCENDIES
Guys, we're all over the news. They're blaming us for the killing of those DEA agents on the train."
FAST FIVE
-Damnit
-What? Hey, what's the problem?
DYLAN DOG: DEAD OF NIGHT
[Act 2, Scene 6]
-What's wrong?
-These want to know why I'm going out with a Paki."
THE ARBOR ...I wrote about this one briefly here... really interesting movie if a bit relentless / overextended.

SOURCE CODE - one of the greatest sci-fis of all time. Love it when they go for intelligence as well as thrills.
INSIDIOUS - it was OK for what it was. I got a few thrills from it.
MEEK'S CUTOFF - as cinematic as they come, but not for the ADHD. Liked it a lot.
WATER FOR ELEPHANTS - haven't read your review, but I was surprised at how much I liked this one myself, so I will read it later
INCENDIES - good solid drama (gotta love a movie with mathematics as a crucial element!)
THE ARBOR - I'm one of about 30 people (probably) that have seen this movie Down Under. Criminal, as it is a good doco
RIO, FAST FIVE - ugh. Two of the worst movies of the year (and that's from someone who was OK with all the other F&F movies).
SOURCE CODE was pretty slick fun. then again, anything with Jake or Vera will get my ass in a seat
still need to catch INSIDIOUS, if only for the lovely Patrick Wilson
Jake was great in Source Code...I would throw him into the Best Actor conversation.
I love how the Hanna screencap hints just lightly on the movie's punk aesthetic.
Is that The Princess of Montpensier?
I'm so shocked I guessed that correctly.
I want to speak to Marissa Wiegler.
I was hopeful that the 20:11 screencap from Hanna would include that goddess Jessica Barden. Alas, no.
"I found her, she can't speak English, she's from Sri Lanka."
Hanna is truly the best bad movie of the year... or is it the most problematic good movie?
Jessica Barden SO needs to be on your list of Best Actress in Limited or Cameo Role although I feel she might have a bit too much time, if I go by your past nominees. Anyways, she one of the best and funniest of the year. /random stanning ;)
I still curse myself for missing Hanna. April was a busy month for me.
Vera Farmiga was SO GOOD in Source Code. You should definitely consider her for year-end "best job in a limited role," even though she did get a good deal of screen time. She made that character come alive despite having, quite literally, NOTHING to work with.
Watched Hanna again yesterday, and still have fond memories of it. The style is electric, but I think the movie failed to combine the narrative of Hanna and his "father" so the movie felt disjointed. However, I think Blanchett and Ronan were great in it, worthy of some award love...
