Did you see last night's Glee "Original Song"? I always feel so melancholy at Regionals episodes because I know that means no Glee for awhile. For a show I often actively dislike on account of lazy writing, wasted opportunities and ridiculously unnecessary pandering (People loved the show before it started pandering to them! Why bend over backwards to worry about what people might like now?), sometimes the show makes it really hard for me to pretend that I don't just love it, warts and all. So many highlights in this one, from Brittany's always dependable split second deadpan "favorite song: my headband" to a rare Mercedes showcase "Hell to the No" to a gay kiss played emphatically and without apology, to the return of undergirding themes (Rachel's future completely obvious stardom versus small town limitations) to that killer joyous finale "Loser Like Me" in which the kids learn the age old oppressed minority trick of turning insults into empowering F-you pride. Anyway, loved it. I still wish that show I loved last year about small town Broadway geeks trying to find their voices would come back but the new now old Glee is still great cathartic fun when it remembers to be.

Just Jared Seann William Scott taking care of personal and health matters in treatment. Best wishes. I think he's adorable even if he has way too many consonants in his name.
Movie|Line Ewwwww. They're rebooting Daredevil now?
Playbill Kathleen Turner (nearly back on Broadway in High) will be interviewed in the Times Talk series in May. Tickets available.
Movie|Line bizarre lengthy Tarzan audition tape
Gordon and the Whale Hey, if Alessadro Nivola gets Michael Fassbender's cast offs, maybe Fassbender should say no a little more often? I love them both but Nivola has been way too neglected and I don't want Fassy to burn out.
Acidemic "Beatrice Dalle My What Big Teeth You Have." Beatrice is on my mind as I just watched this newish french flick Domain where she is typically vivid and dangerous feeling, even while simply strolling through a park or ordering a glass of wine. Have you ever seen Betty Blue? Still one of the craziest movies ever to snag a Best Foreign Film Oscar nom.
Towleroad Remember that story about Jake Gyllenhaal being photographed in a men's room at SXSW. It's been animated. (The transformation into Jack Twist is a funny touch.)
Serious Film revisits Viggo Mortensen's Oscar worthy work in A History of Violence.

I love Glee for some reason, (Naya Rivera), but since you brought it up....Dianna Agron's acting in last night's episode completely blew me away. I watched it on television and then I went and looked it up online so I could watch it again illegally just to put the stamp of approval on it: Dianna. Agron. was. amazing. last. night. Notably in her scene with Rachel explaining how her and FInn will be stuck in Ohio while Rachel is off doing bigger things. Loved itttt.
"Favorite song: my headband" made me laugh so loud! The boyfriend just stared at me like I was crazy. That Brittany is definitely a keeper. BUT, Glee and I totally have a love/hate relationship. I love what it used to be, and totally agree about the pandering; now I just love it sometimes. But I also thoroughly enjoyed last night's episode, making it one of my favorites.
*minor rant* One of the most frustrating things to me about the show is this...as an Ohio native, I would just like to say that Westerville (where Kurt and Blaine go to school) is almost 2 hours away from Lima (where all the main action is), yet characters just randomly pop up in both places, especially with Kurt and Blaine just getting coffee at the "Lima Bean". Does Kurt really drive 2 hours each way to school? I don't know, maybe I'm just crazed, but couldn't they have picked a city closer to Lima to make things more realistic? *end rant*
And I second your "ewww" about Daredevil. TERRIBLE idea.
It was so random to see Kathy Griffin as a judge... I hope it doesn't fall into the Will & Grace stunt where there is a new guest star each episode
Nathaniel, will you go see la Turner? Please do!
Peggy -- i doubt i'll be able to afford it but maybe some kind soul will invite me to the press day. we'll see.
No, I've never seen "Betty Blue" (nor even heard of it), but after you posted that picture.... I mean, after you described it as crazy, I immediately added it to my Netflix queue. Hot! (The description, that is. I swear.)
I think if there is one thing Glee has going for it it is the quality of the acting. I wish these kids would get more credit then the do. Cutting back on Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison's screen time this season has been one of the only things they have done right this year. Not that the two (former) leads are not wonderful, but when you look at the show as an ensemble piece it's fantastic. In the last two weeks in small scenes Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Diana Agron, Ashley Fink and Chris Colfer have all turned in fantastic moments. Deeply flawed as this show is each week it seems to provide the best moment on television.
Oh my God - that Tarzan audition tape!! Oh lord - I couldn't make it through the whole thing - if he's walked through water one more time or enter the shot to look at the scenery I thought I'd die. Poor guy. Doesn't he realize he needed at least one good closeup with some sort of life in his eyes to make it even remotely viable? And why didn't he do anything more daring than walk around, climb a few hills, and sit on a rock? Oh yeah - he hung from a vine(rope?) and swung around in a circle and then edited it together to make it look like he'd done it more than once. At least he could have slid down that waterfall - that didn't look that steep. And then he wrestled that fur blanket - I'm sure glad you warned me so I could fast forward to that part! And while he was reaching for that knife it looked to me like the gorilla was having some frottage fun with Tarzan, not trying to hurt him. Gosh - he must be a good actor to have escaped the struggle with a gorilla without a scratch on him. He should have let a gay man write and shoot the thing - then maybe it would have had some guts.
Betty Blue: Saw it, love it.
Betty Blue is quite good, I need to rewatch it.
Viggo is GREAT in History of Violence. What I've always found most fascinating about the movie? His wife and son love him more for it.
My god, that Tarzan audition tape is priceless! Hahaha, that ending made me lol so hard. The guy really doesn't need any Tarzan movie to audition for, everything is already in his head. He can save the temporary stardom phase and the disappointment and the emptiness that come later on, and start booking a bedroom in a good clinic. Common, someone called DeWet duToit (=roof leak?) can't be taken seriously.
Chip -- Betty Blue is really good but it's one of those movies you scratch your head wondering why Oscar got into because we always hear they don't respond to the super graphic stuff but it's pretty NC-17 rate... albeit before the rating ;)
Andrew -- that movie is just fascinating full stop. i love it SO much. I hope it's rep grows as time passes.
"Betty Blue" is one of my all time favorite. The first time I saw it was (very unfortunatly) with my parents. I was 14 maybe 15 years old. "Malaise". For those who saw the movie (the opening scene...anyone?) you know what I mean...
stjeans -- oh god. i would have been mORTIFIED. it was bad enough seeing the Room with a View bathing scene with my parents ;)
I'd so be into seeing "The Fighter 2." Those Ward/Gatti fights were pretty epic, and I need my Bale/Leo fix again! (Just bought "The Fighter" DVD on Tuesday, so I'm good for now).
Loved "Glee"'s "Original Song" episode. The Blurt kiss was great and unexpected, and Santana's "Trouty Mouth" was just . . . wow. Naya Rivera's having a killer season so far. I'm still listening to "Loser Like Me" on a loop.
would bale really transform again?
I just ranked Glee's 4 competition performances! I judged them based on costume, choreography, vocal performance, and overall impact. Whew, it was really tough for me. See which sectionals or regionals episode placed first! =)
