Reader of the Day: Kyle

March is winding down. Only three more Readers of the Day. Please let us know if you'd like to see future Reader Spotlights, albeit less frequently, in some capacity. Today we're talking to Kyle by way of Ohio and now South Carolina.
Nathaniel: When did you start reading the Film Experience?
KYLE: I started reading in 2004. I appreciated your love for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The Oscar coverage, witty writing, and overall admiration for cinema kept me coming back. I've visited the site at least once, every day, for the past six (almost seven) years.
I love to hear that. Okay, what was your first movie / movie obsession?
KYLE: The first movie I definitely remember seeing in a theater was Jurassic Park and I totally fell asleep! I remember my eyes slowly closing right after the T-Rex attacked the kids in the car.
These are a few of Kyle's Favorite Things...Recently: Sandra Bullock. I'd love to just snatch it out of her hands (gently so not to harm him), and hand it to Abbie Cornish (I will always defend Bright Star, and how excellent every aspect of it was.) I really do like Sandra, but her winning was so...wrong. Abbie wasn't even nominated but she completely moved me in that film.
It'd be called Who Am I Trying to Impress?, which is a saying I often use when I'm about to do or say something I know I shouldn't. It would obviously star me, and be directed by Darren Aronofsky. I'm sure he'd make my nights of sitting on my bed, eating peanut butter, and watching American Idol seem way more interesting. I just hope he'll make some creative changes and give me orange hair and add my very own lesbian sex scene.

Well, since it was mentioned in the last Readers of the Day Nathaniel that this has been a parade of attractive people, I must say that you ended a very high note Nathaniel. :)
I feel a little sad, though, looking at that picture of Anjelica Huston and Drew Barrymore that there isn't a more memorable duo of the two than Ever After. Maybe it's time for some sort of horror reunion? I would die if Huston could get a role that was as good as The Witches/Grifters again.

Joey -- there seem to be a lot of fans of Scream in the world -- see also: Glenn's scene by scene breakdown. I don't really get it as i'm not a horror buff
but i do remember seeing SCREAM the first time. I was sitting right next to someone who I ended up dating and being madly in love with but he was dating someone else at the time and i was SO scared that I just wanted to grab hold of him constantly but his boyfriend -- who was my friend -- probably would have objected you know? ;)
I think you should do more "Reader of the Day." I enjoyed reading all of them and hope that I can read more. It's fun to see what people think of movies and all. So I say...keep going!

Also, it struck me today how weird it is that Abbie Cornish was in Bright Star and is now in Sucker Punch.
Totally agreed on the Abbie Cornish in Bright Star - when she hears of Keats' death, that scene on the staircase - absolutely brilliant!!

3 Favourite Musicals: Singin in the Rain, Bugsy Malone (see it, Nat. It's REALLY GOOD, even if it is the GANGSTER MUSICAL WITH CHILDREN), Funny Face.
I've been saving my dvd copy of "Bright Star" to unwrap and watch for just the right time when I need to be reminded that there is beauty in the world. Similarly, I'm also heading off to find some botox and a good retoucher just in case I'm ever a reader of the day.
Interesting, The Witches and Jurassic Park would be my answers for first movie obsessions. They were the first movies I remember seeing in a theater and having a major reaction. And The Little Mermaid... Funny, my favorite movie characters as a kid were Ursula and the Grand High Witch...

But I'm totally the same way, my favorite classic movies are definitely horror/thriller, Alien could very well be my favorite ever. As for contemporary who doesn't love Eternal Sunshine? :)

I agree that this should be continued, it's nice to put a face on some of these fellow readers...also, the fact that I never see other Kyles here in Atlanta makes this one article particularly special to me :-)
Halloween is one of the most perfect movies, horror or otherwise. Gotta give props to someone who appreciates horror/thrillers like that.
Louis -- i'm okay with basic any actress being cast in a lesbian sex scene ;) more actresses for us.
Walter --- believe it or not, i can second that. Everyone knows that i'm not a horror fan but even i think Halloween is pretty great. Scared the shit out of me. Truly. and it didn't feel like it was doing it in a super cheap way somehow.
Poor Sandra. The wound that is her Oscar win keeps burning and scabbing and other physical metaphors. And Abbie Cornish was robbed of a nomination.
And calling Kyle cute would probably make me feel like an old perv, even if his cinematic memory suspiciously goes back further than mine. :P

If the Readers in the Spotlight are going to continue to be so cute, you definitely need to do more.
Yeah, I don't think it's a surprise to anybody who knows me that "Scream" was (still is) an obsession of mine. Nathaniel, there are a lot of reasons for why "Scream" was such a seminal film for many, but I think what it all boils down to is that for people of a certain age who saw it it was like a whole new world opening up. Not only was it just a horror movie (most people like watching a horror movie every now and again when they're young, even if they're not a fan of horror), but it completely re-invented what a horror film could be and, thus, what cinema could be, what it could do. It almost demands that films be special and not just coast on their genre or whatever other time-honoured thingamajig they have going for them.
I need to see your biopic Kylie. Like, NOW.

Robert -- The Little Mermaid was the first movie I actually saw in the theater, I just don't remember (I was almost two). But it's been said that I was VERY attentive.

Paolo -- I'm not THAT young, I mean I'm hitting the mid-twenties this year. Is that still considered young? ;)

Scream changed the way I looked at movies too. I can watch it now and see it's not exactly a GOOD film, but it was so self-consciously meta-, and combined with the age when I saw it, it helped me see films more as works of arts than as simply entertainment.
That's how my coworker in Alabama always referred to me..."Cal!! CAL!!"
But they call me 'Keelay" at work as well, or sometimes "Kylie" which is a little much.

Kyle -- My nickname for years has been Keelay. My oldest sister likes to call me Kylie, and it has definitely gotten old over the years. ;)
