Tale as Old as Time...
... that tale being "I'm running late!" My entry in tonight's Hit Me With Your Best Shot featuring Beauty & The Beast is going to have to go up tomorrow evening. [UPDATE: My Entry is Finally Up.]
Honestly my DVD just vanished into thin air -- it's like someone cursed me instead of that handsome prince. I was literally holding the dvd in my hands on Friday saying to myself "self, this is going to be so exciting to watch. You haven't seen it in 10 years." And then for the past three days of searching, nothing. Adventure in the Great Wide Somewhere is going to require buying a new copy. I even cleaned the whole apartment looking for it. I even cleaned the whole apartment without the help of animated househould objects.

Here's my contribution!
Hey, big fan here, hope you don't mind if I send you my entry as well.

My blog would love to contribute to these as much as we can, but since we're animation oriented, our options are limited.
Not sure if it's supposed be sent via comment or email, so here's my contribution. It's my favorite animated film, so writing up this entry was fairly easy

I have to say I loved reading all your posts so far. We are a very distinctive bunch in fact; we all chose different aspects on which to focus on.
I love BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (it's my #3 after 'Alice' and 'Mermaid'). I still get the gut-punching feeling whenever I see Gaston sticking the knife in the Beast. I still get sad when I see Belle mourning over him. And I still get teary-eyed and with my heart pounding when the chilling final seconds of the movie arrive and you hear "Tale as old as time / Song as old as rhyme / Beauty and the Beast". It's such a compassionate, enchanting, magical fairy tale...
Knowing all that about Howard Ashman from 'Waking Sleeping Beauty' has only made me love the movie more, as if it's possible.
Can't wait to see what you wrote for us tomorrow Nathaniel ;)
I did one too: http://tinyurl.com/6kzb4ym
I love the Red Headed Invasion for the little bit about the bemused chicken. One of my favourite moments this time around, for his not being a nice chicken and nodding at Belle. Such a rebel.
I love LS2GH's selection-- what an interesting pairing of shots-- but I have to say, I don't think any shot can be iconic as that pan from the ceiling onto Belle and the Beast dancing in his ballroom. It's one of the grandest, most magical and elegant moments in cinema.
"Finding you can change. Learning you were wrong." That's what love is to me-- that person who comes out of the blue and makes you realize how life can be so different than how you had been living it. *Sigh.*
Ugh. I'm so excited to read all of these but i can't until mine is done. I don't wanna be unduly influenced by all of these passionate* appreciations.
*i'm guessing.
I went to the movies and forgot to post mine, so I'll get to that right away...but anyway, someone stole my DVD of "Beauty and the Beast" too! One day I opened the case only to realize the main disc was gone and all I was left with were the special features...
My entry is this.

cuz I'm the weird bookworm girl with a Gaston fetish, lol
Off topic questioin:
Is anyone else weirded out by Mrs. Potts ordering Chip to get into the cupboard with his "brothers and sisters"? I know it's just a throwaway line but I can't help wondering every time, is every last tea cup one of Mrs. Potts' children? What the hell was she up to before the curse?

Can't wait for yours, Nat!
Michael C: All of it is suspicious. How Belle can fall in love with a half-bulldog, half-lion., how one of the strongest Disney princesses falls in love with an abusive husband, how no one in the 90's had short hair. But again, the film has nice images.
Loved reading everyone's best shots! I took the easy route and went with a shot from the ballroom sequence, because to be honest I really couldn't pick the one. So I'm glad some of my other favorite shots made it to some of the other posts.
Michael C & Paolo - And how about that opening? Are we to believe that the Prince would be the one to actually open the door? I also wondered what happened to his family/parents as all we see in the movies are his servants.
Ryan T.: I asked myself those same very questions, because at the time of the first transformation, the Prince would have been 11 years old (the rose would bloom until his 21st year and in Be Our Guest, Lumiere sings that they have been rusting for ten years). But it is fantasy and at heart a children's tale, so I do not fault the movie for that.
Michael C. and Ryan T. - Which is weird because teapot/Landbury leads all the anthromorphic objets as his surrogate parents/support system. And we can only be as lucky to get Angela Lansbury to be those to us, but why did they have to wait to train and intervene with him now as opposed to reining him in so he wouldn't have been mean in the first place. Rufus/VotT has an interesting analysis of the beast, but I saw his Beast self as a teenage awkward phase. Although I hope most girls nowadays would not have stood for any of his shens.
Also, what separates Beast from Gaston is their support systems. They're both hulking insecure beings, Gaston just has that comic relief guy, and a town that kowtows to his BS.
Yay! My first entry. http://awardsnazi.blogspot.com/2011/04/hit-me-with-your-best-shot-beauty-and.html
