Super 8, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, Green Lanter, Tree Of Life, X-Men: First Class, Thor, Captain American and if Smallville has Clark put on the Superman suit for more than five seconds during the series finale next week! I think that maybe a little too fanboy-ish for this site but I had to get it out, lol.

yes W.E. indeed... I suspect she will be a great director but even Barbra Streisand was snubbed a directing nomination so I won't hold my breath for Madonna :-(

May 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDakota

We Need to Talk About Kevin.

I just finished the book and it was harrowing and incredible. Can't wait to see what Tilda does it!

OOOh yeah...Tom Hooper's Les Miz...good one!

I'm gonna say Super 8...and Black Swan on blu-ray.

BTW...this has nothing to do with anything...but I have to shout it out...Rabbit Hole (with Nicky K.) was amaze! The nomination...completely deserved. And where was a nom for Dianne and Miles Teller?

May 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSoSueMe

A good film! Hate the post-Oscars wasteland of crap. Going to watch Jane Eyre this weekend, yay!

There are so many... I'd go for EVERY film in your predictions, but I'll trim it down a little: The Help, Albert Nobbs, The Iron Lady, Michelle Williams' Marilyn, anything with Ryan Gosling in it and, well, anything starring Jessica Chastain. I want to find out what all the fuss is about.

May 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMarcos

Judge me, but Pirates 4. I loved the first 2, and Depp and Rush are always a treat.

It was good but a bit of a disappointment. Nicole couldn't make it and Ewan was there in a pre-taped interview for 5 minutes. Baz was there for the hour and John Leguizamo was there for a hot minute.

Tom Hooper's Les Miserables? Bleep. If that's who they've got for it...read the book. As for me? Crazy Stupid Love, Friends with Benefits, Thor and Tree of Life are the ones that have got me most interested. (The Descendents? If it gets good reviews. Alexander Payne hasn't directed a movie in seven years. I don't want to risk seeing a rusty director.) Emma Stone: Based on the look of The Help's trailer, I really don't know if it'll turn out well and it's seems like a debut dramedy. (There are some GREAT straight drama debuts, straight comedy debuts and horror/thriller debuts, but I haven't heard of great debuts in the epic (David Lean started off as a director of intimate dramas) or genre fusion (Evil Dead 2 (One of the best sequels of the 80s and, certainly, the most improved) and Rushmore are second films) categories.) I'd place more faith in a few Crazy Stupid Love campaigns (Emma Stone, Gosling, Carell and, maybe, Moore) getting some heat, especially if The Descendents and I Bought a Zoo turn out to be duds. (After the trailer showed quite a bit of wit, I'd place it as maybe the best "studio" com since, at the very least, School of Rock, if not Tootsie.) Now for critiques: Based on the trailer, the chemistry bereft production Larry Crowne is out, The Skin that I Inhabit is foreign, This Must be the Place and The Rum Diary need orgasmically strong reviews based on their concepts, Coriolanus is a derivative of The Hurt Locker and Baz's Romeo and Juliet, Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman have the same problem (people would be more itching for a supporting nom at this point), The Conspirator is an early release with bad reviews, J. Edgar is a Clint and, slowly, surely, the Academy may be getting over Clint. Butterfield and Irvine probably won't receive a nom in either category. They often don't pull the category switch with young males. Young males just get brushed off. The Beaver: It sounds like Gibson's letting loose all his hammiest impulses in the "Beaver" three quarters of the role. If John C. Riley's not the best role in the show, he likely won't get #1s. Pitt could, quite likely, be perceived as a support in Moneyball with PSH getting viewed as the lead (it is a Bennett Miller, after all). Jason Reitman (Young Adult) has to screw up at some point. On the Road is an indie movie about the proto-hippies. Fassbender is a male prostitute in Shame. And they've never gone for those as leads before. I'd say:

Michael Fassbender, A Dangerous Method
Ryan Gosling, The Ides of March
Woody Harrelson, Rampart
Steve Carrell, Crazy Stupid Love (it's been 13 years since they've nominated a pure comic performance and it'll draw attention more than The Beaver (they never go for crazy in comedy) or Larry Crowne (way too light)
One of these, depending on the breaks:

Leo, Jedgar
Clooney, Descendants
Penn, This Must Be the Place
Depp, The Rum Diary (if this nom happens, he's won.)

May 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterManuel

I am desperately waiting for Jane Eyre, it doesn't open in Oslo until late June. At least I'll get my Fassbender-fix with X-Men First Class in early June.

Manuel: Great to see someone mention Oslo 31 August, I am really excited about that one. It opens in Oslo on the 31st of August :)
