The NAACP has released their Image Award nominees and Awards Daily is pleased to see the Cicely Tyson mention in supporting actress. That's all well and good as she was quite touching in the movie but it seems utterly bizarre to have FIVE actresses nominated from The Help for acting prizes and no sign of Jessica Chastain. It's Viola, Octavia, Cicely, Emma... and Bryce!?! Pariah, which is finally in theaters, also did very well in their nominations. Congratulations to the nominees especially Regina King who was nominated for Southland... so underrated.
Team "Help" when the Oscar buzz was but a whisper at their world premiere.
And though I forgot to mention it a few days back, the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (aka GALECA) gave both of their best film prizes --the standard best film plus the best gay film prize -- to Andrew Haigh's Weekend. Michael Fassbender won the "We're Wilde About You Rising Star Award". We Were Here, a documentary about the early years of the AIDS crisis in San Francisco, took their Best Documentary honors. It's also an Oscar finalist this year.
Overseas the London Film Critics Circle took their cue from Nathaniel (kidding) splitting their prizes between his two favorite films of the year The Artist (Picture, Director) and A Separation (Screenplay, Foreign Film, Supporting Actress). And back here in the States the Iowa Film Critics yearned for Hawaiian vacations with The Descendantszzzs.

London Critics Circle Film Awards winer anounced and a separation won 3 awards best foreign film,screen play and best supporting actress goes to sareh bayat for a separatio(what a good news,she won over venessa redgrave octivia spencer jessica chastain and jacie weaver for animal kingdom) artist named best pic while a separation became 2nd film
jean dujarden won best actor and meryl streep (tie with anna aquin ) won best actress
That is SO weird that the NAACP choice Bryce Dallas Howard, who was not only playing a completely unlikeable character (that practically hated black people) and gave a good but not amazing performance, she was chosen over Jessica Chastain who gave the better performance as a likable character that didn't see race as an issue. It's just weird that they voted for her, lol.
Cicely is a legend, sure. But come on, awards worthy? She was *In my humble opinion* a bit forgettable in "The Help".

This Had Oscar Buzz: Or, the Link that Finally Justifies The Existence of Tumblr.
Man, it feels like only yesterday people were talking about "Meet Joe Black" in terms of how many Oscars it would win, and not in how many times you would come across it while channel surfing on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
And I'm STILL trying to wrap my head around "Best Actor frontrunner Mike Meyers." And I was a thirteen year-old JUST getting into the Oscar game, and "54" looked like the drizzling shits.
It says a lot about the Golden Globes that despite the HUGE disappointment of Bobby (I remember it even landed on a few worst-of-the-year lists), the HFPA still nominated it for Best Picture. And what's worse is that I can specifically remember watching the ceremony that year, and when Arnie announced the winner for that category, I actually thought for about 3 whole seconds that he said "Bobby!" (He actually said "Babel").
Can anyone explain the NAACP's criteria in determining eligibility for Image Award nominations? Because I'm at a loss as to if it's supposed to be about quality (ha!), quantity (i.e. an African-American-skewing or in-service-of cast or storyline), or like an ad parents buy in the yearbook -- "You did it!" -- recoginizing their child's activities (even if said child's output was nominal at best).
Honestly, in what language are Eddie Murphy's and Bryce Dallas Howard's performances this year better than John Boyega's (in 'Attack the Block') and Nicole Beharie's? Talk about shame...
