Kerry Washington Covers Vibe

The one and only Kerry Washington is front and center on the cover of this month's Vibe, flanked by Django Unchained co-stars Leo & Jamie.

You can read the whole cover story @ Vibe. But I did want to throw this bit about politics and a cute video of the photo shoot out there for discussion...

VIBE: Speaking of the election, what is it about Hollywood that makes it a liberals-only club?

FOXX: It's the one-percenters who are actually liberal. We're artists. I'm just here to make jokes and sing and have a good time and make people feel good. When I walk down the street, I don't see anything; I just see folks. I always look at it like this. It's weird to me that we can be in a war and be fighting someone right now with guns and bullets in 2012. It doesn't make sense. That's why I am politically where I am. It doesn't come down to economy. My worry is what is happening to another human.

WASHINGTON: I think our job is to step into somebody else's shoes as actors. So I think we are open to other people's journeys. Because our jobs is to be empathetic. To say, ‘‘How does this person see the world, how does this person think about things?” Our job is to think about the other person. I think that has a lot to do with it.

Kerry's answer makes total artistic/political sense but wth is Jamie Foxx on about with that one percent comment?

Oddly though I wasn't invited to the NYC Django Unchained screening yesterday I did speak with Kerry Washington -- she hadn't seen the film yet either! -- stay tuned for that interview this week.

This is a marry, fuck, kill moment if ever there was one. Marry Kerry obviously, but what to do with the other two?

I'd kill Kerry because I prefer to have sex with other men. Leo is cute but can Jamie stay a freak throughout a marriage?

WOW! You've been doing some pretty incredible interviews lately, Nat!
So excited to see them!

I hope she knocks it out of the park in du she could be our surprise supporting actress nominee.

Scandal gives me a sadface. Come back to the big screen, Kerry Washington, Kerry Washington... even if the movies don't deserve you. An oscar nom would be quite the stepping stone, no?

There's a color barrier alongside other prejudice politics in the casting decisions of the men who run Hollywood. Television and Theater are the saving grace for women of all types—size, age, color.

Christoph Waltz for a Best Supporting Actor nomination tbh

Liberal (stressed on the last syllable) around here peripheral Europe, is usually synonym of neo-conservative policies in economy. It's used to refer to those policies that go towards liberization (?) of markets so that they regulate themselves with no political intervention (because we can see ho well this has worked...). Basicaly, those policies that aim at perpetuating the power of that 1%. It's the only explanation I can think of, but I really doubt Foxx has been analysing the situation of global economy in Spain. :)

TBH, it is Tarantino with a wonderful cast and a praised script, I am sure the film is fantastic. Which is why I've rolled my eyes every time you, and most other awards predictors, practically completely ignore it in the main categories.

This film will likely have good box office, reviews, acting, writing, ....ect. Unless Tarantino is off his game, IS HE?, there is not much reason to doubt this film.

But I am still eager to hear your thoughts!

Jamie just means that liberals in Hollywood are extremely wealthy. Which is true.

I've seen the movie! It's good - classic Tarantino - but I don't know if enough people will give it the number one given that it's a more crowded field this time around. I could see Script/Christoph Waltz nominations

December 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMichael James

@Michael James - Is Christoph Waltz really THAT good? He is entered as a lead actor so he'd have to be pretty amazing to break into the strongest field this year.

Just interested :)

Yeah, don't buy Waltz in Lead Actor unless he is jaw-droppingly amazing, and the same goes for Foxx. There's room for DiCaprio, Jackson and/or Washington though. We need to see reviews though. It may not be a player at all.

How is it not going to get a best picture nom?

It is not like Inglorious Basterds just snuck in. If you remember, there was quite a bit of hype/speculation that it could sneak in and win the thing. However it's buzz peaked a little too late I think.

Anyways, IB was solidly IN last time.

There is no reason to doubt Tarantino. I have a feeling this film is being hugely underestimated (FYI Thefilmexperience categorizes it as a Tier 3 longshot along with Skyfall!)

It is about to get released to tons of great press/reviews/news stories and, most likely, audience love (as most QT films do). This film also seems more accessible than IB (larger stars in key roles, no subtitiles,..etc).

If I had to predict a top 5, it'd be: Les Mis, Argo, Lincoln as near certainties. & Zero Dark Thirty and Django Unchained getting into those next two top spots. I have no idea about the rest.

I have a feeling that by the time academy members are filling out there ballots, Django Unchained will have better/more buzz/reviews/press than Silver Linings Playbook and Life of Pi combined though.

But who knows at this point, i guess.

Oh Christoph is LEAD!? That makes a difference. For supporting he would've been a shoo-in. Why would they go for him in Lead? Bad move. I think, with these 5-10 rules, that Django probably will have enough diehard fans. It's probably somewhere in the middle of Tarantino's best movies. It will probably get in if voters are going for nine again. Debatable if they're going for five. The acting all around is great though and actors are the largest branch...SAG ensemble is feasible.

I mistakenly read the top comment as Keery's and even more than thinking 'she sounds nuts' I thought: SHE SINGS?!?!?! Alas.

December 3, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterG

Kerry Washington should've had at least 2 Oscar/Golden Globe Supporting Actress nods (from "Ray" "The Dead Girl" or "Life is Hot in Cracktown") as well as one extra Golden Globe nod for "Mother and Child." I really hope this is her year.
