Curio: The Dark Knight Rises, Posterized

Alexa here. It seems like anticipation for The Dark Knight Rises has been going on for years. With it has come an inevitable stream of fan poster designs that recently broke into a flood. (Riding the wave is Mondo, the indie press affiliated with Austin's Alamo Drafthouse, which recently showcased some Dark Knight Rises posters at Comic-con, including this stunner by Olly Moss.) I've been reveling in my own excitement (yes, I have my tickets already) by sifting through the multitudes to choose my favorites. The lack of strong designs featuring Hathaway's Selina Kyle has been disappointing; I'm hoping this will change once the film is released.  Here's what I've culled from the masses.

Design by Paul Shipper.

I like the last one and the "Why do we fall" especially, but I sort of hate that Mondo poster. The bat symbol as eyes makes it look weird, and it doesn't seem to really be drawing on inspiration from the movie at all. It's the only time I've agreed with the thought that they make whatever they want and then put a movie title on it. I'm definitely sad that the only Mondo poster I'd be able to get thus far is one so ugly

Ooh. I like the first and the last ones. The second one or the 'pulp version' seems Burtonesque which reminds me, when is Christopher Nolan going to make a movie with a colour palette that isn't too monochromatic? It's making me miss Memento.

Everyone: Speaking of The Dark Knight Rises, does anyone think Juno Temple is actually Barbara Gordon? The fan speculation leans on Holly Robinson because of the description "street smart Gotham Girl", and that would fit (Catwoman and all), but we never saw the face of Gordon's daughter at the end of The Dark Knight and it seems like a very subtle visual decision that could be leading to something. If you think I'm crazy, say so.

The last one is very Saul Bass.

Thanks for featuring my Dark Knight Rises poster! I have a newer one to, done as a painting.

Woah, those are some super-cool posters! Did you hear about how the commenters on rottentomatoes caused the site to shut down for a bit?? Crazy stuff!
