just another linking ol' dirty birdy!

Bleeding Cool Heathers, Psycho and The Apartment (yes, The Apartment) all receiving TV spin-offs soon. Weirdly the Heathers series is supposed to be about the daughters of The Heathers. Um, they died as teenagers, stupids #23YearOldSpoiler
HitFix reviews Quartet and says Pauline Collins, not Maggie Smith, actually has the best part
Awards Daily interviews the man behind the visual effects in Snow White and the Huntsman. Oscar bound?
Unreality Tom Hanks cracks audience up at Michael Clarke Duncan's funeral

The Hollywood Reporter looks at the way the awards race is shaping up: Argo, Silver Linings Playbook and The Master up front, Best Actress still anyone's game (for nominations)
Stale Popcorn spots an odd critic's pullquote on the Holy Motors quad
MNPP pic of the day. Thor 2 ... literally
Unreality five lessons learned from Pee Wee Herman from a lifelong fan. I love this article alot but i strongly object to the intro which states:

I was born in 1983. I am currently straddling the border between old enough to know what “cool” is and too old to be writing for a pop culture site.

You're never too old to be immersed in pop culture. Pop culture is culture. It's ageless if you're doing it right. The real world is not Logan's Run ferchrissakes. Are people over 30 not supposed to enjoy anything or have any feelings about anything that's for entertainment? Boo!

Finally...

Please send out your warmest get-well wishes and prayers to Ms Kathy Bates who announced yesterday on Twitter that she had just had a double mastectomy. I personally miss her breasts more than "Harry's Law" (About Schmidt!) but I'm happy she has a sense of humor about it all, laughter being the best medicine. Our thoughts go out to the Oscar winning Misery star and all of her #1 fans.

Stay as strong and lovely as you are Ms Bates. (Kathy, not Norma. Norma is NOT lovely)

Heathers. *sigh*

Let's just hope it stays as bitchy and they don't try to make the characters 'likable'.

That would take all the fun out of it.

I hope Kathy gets well soon, she is always a fun screen presence and seems like a very nice person.

Speedy recovery Kathy. Fuck you cancer.

The Apartment already has a tv spinoff. It's called Mad Men.

On Heathers: Only one of the three Heathers actually died in the official cut, so I don't have any problem with that part of the concept. I don't even have a problem with Slater not being attached, even if he technically could be attached because J.D's death scene has ALL the hallmarks of a great comic book death if you watch closely, including never getting a shot of his body. But my real problem is: They're doing this concept without Winona Ryder?
On The Apartment: Ooookay?
On Bates Motel: What the bleep!? There'd be very little tension if The Bates Family is the actual focus. Best case scenario: Freak of the Week in a motel.

I love Kathy Bates, one of the best character actresses in films and tv, wishing her a speedy recovery.

My thoughts are with Kathy Bates. She exudes talent. I wish her a speedy recovery and the very best.

I love how the author of the Pee Wee Herman piece chalks up his 1991 arrest as no big deal but completely glosses over his subsequent arrest in 2002 over possessing child pornography; there were no felony charges laid but still. And I'm not knocking Paul Rebeuns here as I'm a big fan.

J'adore Kathy. She's a real treat. I think I'm going to watch Primary Colors tonight. I'm hoping and praying she gets well and gets to play really great roles on the BIG SCREEN. Maybe Oscar #2 in the future? I didn't want her to win an Emmy for Harry's Law (Claire Danes is SO SO SO the best), but I wouldn't mind it now so that she can experience the love of her fans in such a hard time. Maybe she can win for Two and a Half Men. Let's hope she gets at least that one (sorry SNL ladies).

At this point I don't care about an Emmy—it's an ugly statuette. She's an Oscar winner—she should have one more to join her girlfriend Jessie.

A dream list of auteurs I want casting Kathy in the future: Yorgos Lanthimos, Paul Thomas Anderson, David O Russell, Steven Soderbergh, Nicholas Winding Refn—Woody Allen (only if it's another period piece since he only seems to cast her as period characters.) at a lost for female director names and last but not least when he gets around to making an English language movie Almodovar.
