Oscar Nominations Announcement

[DRUM ROLL PLEASE]

8:03 The nomination announcement begins in half an hour. My synapses are firing wildly, the coffee is brewed, and in a failed attempt to feel like a sane normal person going about one's daily routine a load of laundry was started. This was perhaps a bad idea since I'm likely to forget said laundry exists in 1/2 an hour. Once again, to borrow Tiffany's sound advice from Silver Linings Playbook I warn myself "Calm down, crazy."

8:05 If you're as touched as I am in the head by those 13 ½ inch gold men you're up watching this

COMPLETE LIST OF NOMINEES AND MORE EARLY MORNING FREAKOUT AFTER THE JUMP (BUT HERE'S A VISUAL CHART INDEX IF YOU'D PREFER... AND HOW I PERFORMED PREDICTIVE-WISE and the TEN BIGGEST SURPRISES )

8:08 Last minute 100% correct prediction: 130+ people will be nominated in 24 categories in half an hour, 75% of those who release statements saying they were sleeping will be lying. Some people who are nominated and some who are snubbed will weep in their hotel rooms or homes. Some managers and agents will be fired and others will lock in clients for life.

8:35 3 Minutes to Live Broadcast. EEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaayiiiiiyii

8:38 on air. OHMYGOD!

8:39 Seth MacFarlane is talking. Emma

Good morning Nathaniel! Good vibrations for The Master and Amour from your Brazilian bases.

Merry Christmas morning! Hope everyone gets what they wanted from Santa! Good luck...just please Academy fix that Supporting Actor category completely

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSteve

Ugh, I'm kinda dreading this TBH. They NEVER do with the exciting picks when presented with them, you know? Remember Best Actress last year? >_>

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMark The First

I will never forget that michelle williams was *carpooling* one year ago... lol.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

CNN predicts: Amy Adams, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Haneke in addition to the four everyone has. Surprised and impressed that CNN's Showbiz Tonight staff knows who Haneke is.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJ.P.

It's 9.30pm here in Malaysia and I'll be watching the announcement for the first time!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJeff

So excited over here too! Can't wait to see how it turns out. Really hoping for Kidman and Weisz to make it and wouldn't mind an out-of-the-blu acting nomination (a la Linney) to shake things up, as long as my darlings actresses don't get snubbed because of that, of course! :)

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCarlos

CNN: All the King's Men was the only politically themed movie to win Best Picture. Gandhi and The Last Emperor aren't politically themed? Why does every channel hire idiots for Oscar commentary? (E!, last year: "The reason Academy members like The Artist so much is because so many of them remember silent films.")

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJ.P.

Hey Jeff, hi another Malaysian here, 9.30pm, can't sleep before seeing the whole list, lol.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPJ

If I could have one last wish, it'd be "Breath of Life" for original song :)

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMYS

Enjoy Nathaniel! Hope it's a great list. I'll be livid if Riva is not read out.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterChrisD

those two at e! really like jessica chastain.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

I can't stand that presenter guy.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

NO, kidman snubbed!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

silver linings playbook looks strong.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

Pirates, wow. Somwbody actually remember that movie?

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPJ

WOW at that best director category!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

Wallis the only surprise, glad to see Riva in there too.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJoe U.K.

No Kathryn Bigelow? Jacki Weaver for doing nothing!?

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJim

Supporting categories - boooring
Director - quite surprising
Actor - ok...
Actress - wow...

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDominik

youre kidding me with the Best Director category right?? wow!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterChelsea

SLP just got a major boost. Nominated for all big 5, and first movie since Reds to be nominated for all four acting categories.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJim

I may have just screamed in a restaurant trying to stream from their shoddy wifi...

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJonathan P

What just happened. WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!

No, they did NOT just snub Kathryn Bigelow. I am in denial.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentercaroline

OMG!!! I can process Kidman's and Weisz's snubs, but Bigelow and Affleck??

UN-F'ING-BELIEVABLE!!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCarlos

How long has it been since they have a movie scoring in all acting categories plus best picture best director best screenplay? 80s? Reds?

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPJ

Wowwww, quite a few surprises. The only boring category was supporting actor.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip

nine again...

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDominik

Well, that shocked me - no real surprises but big snubs! I managed to get actress completely right though.

Why jacki weaver - why? and the supporting actor line up? SNORE

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermorganisaqt

I guess we now know that the Academy loved Amour, SLP and BotSW! (And, to a lesser extent, Django)

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCarlos

Director was pretty awesome, but I had 5/5 in Actress.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDanny Hall

HOW. How could Affleck have been snubbed? I can't even

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTrish

They sure love Silver Linings Playbook!

OMG, NO BIGELOW!!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterValentin

Rivaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!! I dont want anything else for this year, as far as movies and awards are concerned!!!! I can sleep in peace tonight!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

LOL

Both Snow White and the Huntstman AND Mirror Mirror nominated for Best Costume Design

they love Snow white!!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterChelsea

Shocked about Ben Affleck! Sorry to see Rachel Weisz and Ann Dowd miss their categories. Surprised Joaquin made it in, thought he had poisoned the water with his comments.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterjoel6

Best Actress: No complaints, though Wallis was pretty shocking to me. DIdn't think she would make it.

Best Actor: Same. Yay Joaquin!

Best Supporting Actor: Meh. Expected, I guess.

Best Supporting Actress: Jacki Weaver? You can't be serious.

Best Picture: Woot!

Best Director: WHAT THE HELL? JUST, NO.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentercaroline

Holy surprises. WTH. I'm in shock. No Affleck or Bigelow. And sooo disappointed in the supporting actress category!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTravis

Hahahahahaha, Affleck doesn't even get NOMINATED. I don't know why I even find that funny, I like the guy and his movie. And yet somehow I am glad he didn't get nominated.

Brains are weird sometimes.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRoark

Nathaniel are you ok?? Would have like nicole kidman as a nominee, what a bout bigelowww?? Wtf

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHonduran

Where did that Jacki Weaver nom come from?!?!

What else did she do in that movie other than just LOOK supportive?

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBeau

Snow White nominated for Visual Effects??? Where the hell did that come from?

But Skyfall got a bunch of noms!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJim

Nothing for Perks or Moonrise? :-(
I'm actually a little bummed about Affleck too, I thought he was really derserving. Too bad the supporting fields aren't more creative. I like both Arkin and Weaver but didn't think their roles were Oscar worthy when there are so many deserving people who don't happen to be previous nominees. Glad Mirren is out though.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterdaisy5

I got 5/5 in actress -- everything else was all shot to hell. In a really good way. YEAH BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD! GET IT! WALLIS/ZEITLIN FTW!

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTim

woah! so Ang Lee is the only director with DGA, Oscar, BAFTA (+Golden Globe)

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLR

silver linings playbook even scored an editing nom.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermarcelo

I just realized John Hawkes was snubbed as well...wow. That's pretty surprising.

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBia

Whoa..

ANNA KARENINA cleaned up in the secondary categories... Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Score

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDJ

Millions Watts. =)

Surprised--Cooper that guy from wedding crashers/ hangover (an Oscar nominee).

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterchand

Clearly the Academy members voted under a bipolar episode.
