We Are Movie Geeks collects all the new official Oscar posters and Oscar promos so click on over if you wanna fill up on Seth MacFarlane.

Heat Vision Christopher Nolan in talks to direct Interstellar. The internet's mind is blown because it's a) Nolan and b) sci-fi and c) a & b together and d) because it's supposedly a surprise... but since Jonathan Nolan wrote it I can't figure how the "d" is true. What did I miss?

My version of a "You know you're a redneck..." joke - "I know I'm a Haneke loyalist with a stick up my butt about it when all the Amour poster did was make me annoyed about them calling him French when he's actually Austrian." ;P

I agree with JA: there's actually something very Austrian about Amour's sensibility. The fake ad that made me laugh was one of the subtitles for Les Mis: "French people, Cockney accents." I remember scratching my head over the little Cockney urchin.

I read the Times article about Lohan, and I thought Paul Schrader came off as just as irrational as Lohan. In what universe would any director think that Lohan and the porn star James Deen were his ticket for a major comeback?

Interstellar was a project Spielberg was originally set to direct a few years ago but didn't do. It was thought to be dead but now it's alive. That's where the surprise comes from

That Lindsay Lohan article is just...bananas. She's finished. It's just a shame Paul didn't document the filming, that could've been the movie.

lol @ the Lohan article.... something tells me that the making of films are more interesting these days than the actual finished films!!!

I can't stop laughing at that Amour poster.

Bia: Lindsay Lohan's career has been all but cooked since I Know Who Killed Me.
Daniel: Even at his darkest (Schindler's, A.I, Lincoln), I think Spielberg's a bit too idealistic for a typical Nolan script and kind of knows it.
Owen: Well, it "worked" for Catherine Breillat.

I still have some faith in Lindsay Lohan that she'll be able to turn her career/life around. That article is such a crazy/interesting read and I'm glad the film was able to be completed. I really hope they did film some making-of documentary during it. I haven't seen a Schrader film since "Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist" but I did hear good things about the performances (Jeff Goldblum, Woody Harrelson) in his two most recent films ("Adam Resurrected" "The Walker") so maybe he'll get some great ones from Lindsay and uh...James Deen?

Volvagia: lol, yeah, that's definitely what Schrader was going for, with maybe a dash of Michael Winterbottom or Patrice Chereau or even Steven Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience. The thing is, all of these movies are interesting failures; I'm not convinced we gain much from erasing the boundary between porn and mainstream art, at least in heterosexual movies (it may be different in gay movies, where you don't have female exploitation hanging over the sex scenes). And there's something so inherently dubious about American scandal celebrities and porn stars. It would take major artistic ability, which I'm doubtful that Schrader now possesses. But who knows?

The nytimes piece about The Canyons makes it sound so brutal. Its now on everyone's must see list, right?

January 11, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterbbats

"Amour: Directed by a French person." Omg priceless
