Grantland Mark Harris on The Good Wife and Scandal and TV trends in 2013
Variety on that misleading marketing campaign for Frozen and how it paid off. I feared this would happen, not the success but the "our lie worked!" part. I firmly believe that the movie would have been just as successful if they hadn't lied about what it was. Any movie that drops in the low teen percentile from week to week at the box office was going to be a huge smash hit regardless. People love this one and are either returning or telling all their friends that it's great.

Fun 2013 Lists!
The Wire talks the 13 best SNL skits of the year. I rarely watch the show so this all felt new to me!
The Playlist Redbox's most rented titles in 2013 reveal the immense popularity of Melissa McCarthy. I wonder what she's charging now per film?
Junkee Glenn looks at the best of Queer cinema
Towleroad I neglected to share it but I love this 'most powerful coming out stories of the year' and how did I not write about Maria Bello!
The New Yorker's 13 most read posts
Huffington Post Huffpo reviews the year and all the things white people stole from black people from Miley Cyrus twerking to Julianne Hough's Halloween "black face" and dubs this 'the year of cultural appropriation.' Oh, HuffPo, that's EVERY year in our regurgitated pop culture

And Check This Out...

The most popular TV show set in each state as determined by Business Insider. Hat tip to i09 for this juicy discovery. A lot of it is just as you'd expect (The Golden Girls for Florida!, Seinfeld for New York!) but others are more surprising or like memory jogs. If you're from the States do you like your state's representative show?

"The Walking Dead" for GA really is perfect. They shot that pilot on/around my alma mater which was so fitting. Everyone at that school walks around like a zombie in a haze anyway, unless they're in the courtyard protesting the rising number of black and hispanic students. GEORGIA! HUZZAH!

Would've expected King of the Hill for Texas. It seems more generally agreeable. Conservatives would like it because it is them on screen in a non-threatening manner and liberals like it because they know those characters as neighbors/relatives.

Heck, Friday Night Lights is a much better representation.

Married... with Children or Roseanne are toss-ups in Illinois picks. Was it just me or did it seem those shows had incredible overlapping audiences despite their sensibilities actually be a little different. Roseanne more based in economic realities while M..WC was more defiant and loved how trashy it was?

Poor Oklahoma. I guess nobody watched Carnivale.

Most of these are network shows that were based in the state so its not really a representation of what was most popular, just what made them proudest (and brought the most tourists--I understand the house in Minn that MTM lived in is still on tourist stops and don't get me started about the Sex in the City tours and the Soup Nazi.). Would be more interesting to see the results based on Neilsens or cable reports.

As a proud Washingtonian, I'm glad to see Frasier repping the homeland and not Grey's Anatomy.

Henry -- but it's not based on what made people proudest since it is not a poll from each state but the editors of business insider. They judged on

Selections were based on each show’s longevity, critical acclaim, awards, and lasting cultural impact.

The Brady Bunch seems kinda lame for California. Is it really the best we can do? It fails on critical acclaim and awards, though I guess it's fairly high in lasting cultural impact and longevity (though not the show's run of course).

Although I was a little young when Family Ties was on and have no real connection to the show, I'm just happy Glee isn't what is representing Ohio. As a Cincinnatian I'm partial to WKRP in Cincinnati.

"The Office" for PA. Gag.

Who wouldn't be happy with Golden Girls? :p And I hardly even watch the show.

I'm from Scranton so I love the representation of the Office for the hometown, but not a fan of the show. Big thumbs up for Parks and Rec though!

I have a hard time believing that Walker, Texas Ranger had greater impact than Dallas for Texas.

They didn't mention the District of Columbia, but that would obviously be The West Wing.
