It's Kind of a Big Link
i09 King Kong the Musical - check out that enormous expressive ape puppet! But what's with that song and the vague speech-impediment style singing?
Bleeding Cool Harmony Korine is recutting Spring Breakers for a "sizzurped" version. Thankfully Bleeding Cool defines "sizzurped" for us
Coming Soon Anne Hathaway to star in The Lifeboat which is not a remake of the Tallulah Bankhead picture but does involve passengers in a lifeboat. Unfortunately since Hathaway is involved you know the internet will want her thrown off the boat or eaten by the other passengers first to survive.
Empire Robert Downey Jr signs up to be Iron Man until he's old and grey. The check must have been big
Empire and here's a handy infographic of the Marvel Universe plans but if you ask me Phase Two looks pretty UNAMBITIOUS considering what they pulled off for Phase One.
/Film the zombie apocalypse at cinemas will last forever. Arnold Schwarzenegger will soon star in Maggie about a father whose daughter is becoming a zombie. No word on who will play the title character just yet
The House Next Door "Poster Lab" takes on the teaser for Anchorman 2 - the 'stache!

Playbill and as you've undoubtedly heard and probably griped about August: Osage County has been delayed and will now open on Christmas Day because the studios just can't help themselves with their Oscar contenders! Christmas or Bust

Slate Simon Doonan on the American man's Freudian fear of the Speedo. So true and funny.
Vulture on a cute gender-flipped Robyn video "You Should Know Better". Love Robyn. Miss her.
Towleroad Madonna debuts the trailer to #secretproject which plays like a modern dance music video without a song to go with it but with lots of black and white violence. Why? Who knows with that one. I prefer "Sex" to this "Violence"
Today's Watch
Since Takeshi Kaneshiro (House of Flying Daggers, Red Cliff) is so rarely on my big screens *sniffle* I will settle for watching the world's most beautiful man in an airline commercial for Taiwan.
I will buy a ticket for any destination in the world if Takeshi is complimentary with purchase.

Honestly I'm kind of tired of Zombies. The Conjuring is getting good reviews with high praise for Vera Farmiga. I love Vera!
any chance they'll cast a woman in her forties as arnie's daughter...?
Streep turned 64yo today.
Takeshi wasn't part of Infernal Affairs (which starred Tony Leung and Andy Lau). But yes, he is ridiculously gorgeous :).
I definitely think you're underestimating the ambition of Marvel's Phase 2. The news on Guardians of the Galaxy alone betrays a studio looking to expand artistically and take much greater risks and make more strongly authored films, not to mention many people have noted that Captain America The Winter Soldier could be a sequel to the Avengers 2 on its own. Here's hoping the aren't getting lazy.
Casey -- i didn't say lazy. i just said less ambitious. Consider the magnitude of what they were trying to accomplish in phase 1 and then consider that phase 2 is just sequels with one new sci-fi picture.
Thanksgiving was a better date for August: Osage County.
Spring Breakers is one of my favorite movies of the year so far. Who would have thought?
ricopolo - of course you're right. i have no idea what i was thinking while typing.
peggysue -- on thanksgiving & august. SO SO true. especially since dysfunctional family reunions are like what thanksgiving is about.
Nathaniel - I think it's good that Marvel scaled things back a little for Phase 2. While I applaud Marvel's ambition for Phase One, they tried so hard to make everything lead up to The Avengers that most of the movies felt like extended trailers. If Iron Man 3 is any indication, they seem to be correcting that mistake. Besides, with Phase 3 we have Ant-Man and the possibility of Doctor Strange, Black Panther and maybe even Captain Marvel (Miss Marvel).
par3182 - I'm more likely to get a date with Rebbecca Hall then that happening... Well that's a lie, sadly, but Arnie still won't have a daughter that old. Besides, it wouldn't be inaccurate for AHNOLD to have kids in their early to late twenties because most of his real kids are in that age range (if not younger).
I'm very interested in another cut of Spring Breakers. Probably my favorite film of the year, so far (I was hoping Man Of Steel or Star Trek Into Darkness would take that spot but both underwhelmed. Both were good films - and I even saw MOS twice - but both have some pretty significant problems.)
I first thought that commercial was for tea, with the tagline being something like "[tea brand name] will take you places." The appearance of the airliner threw me off, but in a good way.
And am I the only one getting tired of all this Marvel crap?? The only one I really liked was thThe Avengers, with the rest being disposable. But judging by that infograph (don't all graphs provide info?? I don't get it) it won't be stopping anytime soon.
I'm looking forward to this year's release of "Knight of Cups". It has Christian Bale in it and its been directed by Terrence Malik. And for the lads, the cast seems to compromise of a bevy of beautiful women.
Bale plays a Hollywood screenwriter in it and I just love seeing him in these kind of roles.
AOC was moved to December because the next awards season will be super long (Oscars in March after the February Olympics) and because Grace of Monaco is terrible and they had to move it off December.
MDA: For the superhero genre, fluffy and disposable is, still, better than ALMOST EVERYTHING that's adapted from DC. Keanstuntine, Catwoman, Green Lantern, Steel, Superman Returns, Jonah Hex and, to some, Man of Steel? That slate reads, ALMOST ENTIRELY, aside from some Batman films (he's still not spotless (Batman and Robin and The Dark Knight Rises anyone?)), like a rap sheet of near every HORRIBLE superhero film that's received a multiplex release. (I think the only thing missing there is Spawn, if I'm not mistaken?) There ARE stinkers adapted from Marvel, but they're divided evenly between franchise starters and sequels and they're feeling a little less prevalent now that people who somewhat care about the characters are in charge of things.
MDA, right there with you. I haven't even bothered with The Avengers. Or Iron Man3/Captain America/Thor/etc.
daniel & par -- considering that the role first went to Chloe Moretz (who later dropped out and is 50 years younger thatn Ahnuld) i doubt they'll be casting very "mature" for his daughter even though he's 66 years old or something. also at this time I think it's important to not that his son Patrick looks like this :)
1. As much as I respect Sarah McLachlan as an artist, I can't say that I would want to hear that music over the course of two-and-half hours. It doesn't even have the sensibility of the time period. Aside from that -- wow. That puppet is a sight to behold, and Esther Hannaford has some serious pipes.
2. par3182: 70-year-old film heroes will always get 40-year-old wives and 10-year-old children because that's simply the way it is. As for Schwarzenegger's real-life male progeny, I think I'll pass.
3.The worst part of me hopes that this Christmas-day move leads to the complete shutting out of "August: Osage County" for awards contention so that the studios can be taught a lesson. Release high quality movies with bankable stars all year round, letting them build good word of mouth, and they won't be easily forgotten.
Funny that some commentators from some Hong Kong forums were criticizing how old, "bloated" Kaneshiro looked in this ad. To that, I say jealous much? He's very adorable in "Chungking Express", but now he exudes a charm that only middle-age men have.
