I Am Linking

Hollywood Richard Matheson, sci-fi novelist of I Am Legend fame, dies at 87. You can (partially) blame him for the zombie apocalypse craze that's still with us today.
Kevin Patrick O'Keeffe on why Teen Wolf is the most important show on TV for gay viewers. Interesting argument even while admitting that the sole gay character is largely left out of the action.
TFE Don't forget. The 4th season of "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" returns next Wednesday with American Graffitti. Will you be joining us?

wasn't James Badge Dale also in "The Departed"? He's memorable in a lot of films he's in.

The way people keep talking about "Teen Wolf" makes me think that I should start watching it.

I, simultaneously, do and don't get the appeal/odds on of a solo Wonder Woman movie.

I get the appeal and odds because:

She's the biggest hero with no ties to any male equivalent and that should be a great idea to launch a franchise.

I don't get the appeal because:

1. These movies are so big, budget wise, that who they choose to adapt has to be tailored to the international understanding of the genre (in Europe, Hellboy, for example, is supposedly far more respected than Wonder Woman and that got him a movie in the opening salvos of the genre)
2. Wonder Woman has no real big interesting villains to fight that aren't "she punches Nazis" (which is half of the joke of Hark! A Vagrant!'s Wonder Woman). Maybe Cheetah, but that's still going to produce a lot of people doing the Kyle Broflovski, "Really!?"
3. Both of her detailed backstories in the comics are messes. The first was that she was a living clay golem and the second was that she THOUGHT she was a living clay golem, but was, instead, the product of Zeus' being the sleaziest god ever and was raised on an island away from normal human values and men (to quote her origin issue: "A MAN...a MAN on PARADISE ISLAND") and...um...why do we care? There was more of a reason to care about Perseus in the new Clash of the Titans movies, and those were movies that starred Sam Worthington and were directed by studio hacks. At least "Hulk gives his lawyer cousin his blood" can have stakes and sympathy attached easily, instead of being a Herculean feat that even the best screenwriters of this generation would throw up their hands over if they were expected to keep things accurate.

Keahu Kahuanui--another reason to watch Teen Wolf. What a dreamboat.

James Badge Dale is in 'The Lone Ranger' too, and while it's a small part, he nails it perfectly.

I LOVED The Bling Ring. I can't wait to see how more people react to it.
