"Give Carrie a call?"

Sometimes I receive an e-mail from a reader that is so spot on I don't even know what to add. So thanks to Dave for pointing out this absurdity on Facebook.

He writes:

Are they honestly trying to make "Carrie" sexy? Do they think that evoking old 1-900 hotlines is... relevant to kids today?

Good questions both and lol on the 1-900. On the other hand, if Margaret White rings (or sings), I'm totally picking up.

Sexy 'Scary Carrie' hits theaters one month from now. With remakes of lesser known titles you sometimes have to worry that studios will bury the original to clear the way for new profits. Thankfully the original Carrie is too well known and too widely disseminated for that. The new Carrie will surely self-immolate (literally and figuratively) but the original will haunt forever.

I keep hoping -- for our sake! -- that the studio endlessly pushes back the release date for Carrie till we just collectively forget it exists (a la Margaret) and ultimately don't even notice it sink without a trace. Mmm...that smells good.

I assume they're referencing the original TV ad, which scared the crap out of me as a kid and is emblazoned on my brain: "If you have a taste for terror...you have a date with CARRIE." This seems to be their updating the "date" idea.

The phone call gag has nothing to do with sexuality. There are pre-recorded audio files containing both Moore's and Moretz's voices that play into the theme of the film. The difficult process of dialing the number, or looking it up online, would've prevented such a stupid question.

Cam: Lighten up.

I can't think of a single person I want to call less than Chloe Moretz. Especially Chloe Moretz playing in big girl Carrie clothes. No thank you!

She is so wrong for Carrie.

This whole movie is WRONG.

The newest Carrie trailer makes me think it's a bad prequel to Freedomland. Julianne Moore plays a crazy, abusive mother who might lead to her own child's destruction and have to try to cover it up to save face in town.
