Mia Out, Mara In.

In case you haven't heard, Mia Wasikowska dropped out of Todd Haynes' Carol in which she was to star opposite Cate Blanchett and none other than my beloved Rooney Mara was chosen to replace her (a vast improvement if you ask me). The film is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's The Price of Salt which she published under a pseudonym because of its controversial subject: two women in love.
Blanchett will play a married woman who falls for a young department shop employee played by Mara. We all know Haynes is an impeccable director with a remarkable eye for period detail; even those who hated Mildred Pierce - how dare you! - were in awe of his attention to detail, which made it feel like a documentary more than a soapy drama. But above that, we know how great Haynes is with actresses. So this probably has secured them at least Golden Globe nods. The film doesn't star shooting until 2014 though, so we'll have to wait...
P.S. With Cate and Rooney onboard, A.K.A the best dressed women alive, and oft-Riccardo Tisci-muses we've also secured endless red carpet orgasms for 2014 (?).

A question to Mia and her handlers - are you afraid of iconic movie stars? This is the second time she bails out on a major co-star after Sils Maria with Binoche.

I cannot wait to see this, after seeing Todd Haynes' "Poison" I am convinced he is one of the great minds working today. The guy is a genius. I like both Mia and Rooney so I don't care. But the best part of this project for me is, of course, Cate Blanchett.
There was some asshole who described "Carol" as a British indie sometime last year and that Blanchett's chances with Oscar are not big at all.
Well, now it's a Harvey Weinstein-Cate Blanchett-Rooney Mara-Todd Haynes vehicle, so watch out Oscar 2014!
Man this was disappointing news this morning. But silver lining, I did not realize just how much I loved Mia Wasikowska until hearing she was dropping out of this project. Amazing considering our introduction was Alice In Uglyland.
Cast Cate's evil husband.... Viggo? Her Stantely Joel Edgerton? Always bad Husband Sarsgaard?
Is it weird that the thing I'm most excited about with this movie is seeing what Haynes does with Therese's set design miniatures? (Assuming he keeps that part of the story). Anyway I agree, Jose, Rooney Mara is a much better choice for this role.
Soooo TFE book club? I want to read The Price Of Salt, but judging from that book cover it's best read with a group of pulp-loving movie fans.
I vote whole-heartedly in favor of a TFE book club, particularly if it leans pulpy.

Other, non-Ripley Highsmith books that need to be Todd Haynes movies: People Who Knock on the Door, This Sweet Sickness, and Small g. Actually, the two might be the most perfect marriage of director and writer ever.

Todd Haynes directing an adaptation of Highsmith sounds much more fitting than James Cain. Honestly, the match makes so much sense that I feel like an idiot for not demanding it years ago.
And I don't know why, but now I am wondering how the Coen Bros. adapting Highsmith has never happened.
Rooney is only well dressed in red carpets, when emulating Lisbeth salander. When not on "dragon tattoo mode" she is not as impressive. And her "ooooh, I´m soooooo deep and profound and artistic and sooooo complex for hollywood" are laughable.
Cate is a goddess in everyway and can do no wrong.
