Curio: Oscar Party Craftiness

Alexa here with the weekly arts and crafts curio.

Listening to Joe, Nick and Nathaniel's discussion of Oscar parties reminded me about all the Oscar games and crafts I've been ambitiously bookmarking over the years.  Maybe it's our overlong Chicago winters, but I seem to get an attack of laziness the week of the show and forgo the crafts in favor of making loads of comfort food.  But really, I want that to change this year, because, how sweet are some of these ideas?  Fun for everyone!  Even the Oscar-averse.

Probably my favorite is the idea of spray painting Ken dolls Oscar gold.  I love the idea of going all Goldfinger on a thrift store Ken, and getting a posable Oscar statue as a result.

More craft and game ideas after the jump...

Another one I've always been desperate to try is this movie quote plate craft.

Also, easy-to-make nominee award ribbons! Let everyone fight over Jennifer Lawrence.

There are so many game ideas, Oscar Bingo being a popular favorite, either for awards or red carpet.  Here is a printable one for 2014.

Or print out this great 2014 Oscar party word find.

Or paste up an easy "who wore it?" game like this one.

Finally, you can try to get football lovers interested by copying Formal Fringe's fantasy Oscar draft game.

If i ever throw another Oscar party, i'm doing that dolls spray painted gold thing. I can't believe i've never thought of that

Alexa--so funny about the Ken doll. The year Jaws came out (1975), my sister hacked up a Barbie's leg, then put red nail polish around the jagged bits. In 1981, she cut and spiked the hair of another with glue to look like Madonna. Can't wait to email this post to her!

If anyone wants to do the doll to Oscar craft, make sure you use a spray paint designed to go on plastic. The standard spray paint will never settle right and will scratch right off.

You could use a primer and regular gold spray paint, but you'd still need a primer designed to go on plastic.

I'm desperately trying to find Oscar candles for a cake...HELP!

Pam, that is awesome. So many Barbie cake ideas are running through my head now.

Brooksboy, how about decorating your cake with a combination of gold candles, gold stars and chocolate Oscars? Links below.
