'3 Women' is my favorite movie and Shelley Duvall gives the best film performance I've seen so far as Millie Lammoreaux. Sissy Spacek is brilliant, too.
Now I need to watch it again!
Shelley Duvall is a national treasure. Thank God Altman had the good sense to use her to maximum effect. (Bonus points for Faerie Tale Theater, her endlessly watchable, baroque masterpiece.)

I've seen most of Altman's work from the 70's and I'm sorry to say that his work doesn't do anything for me...except for this film. Great performances all round, an eerie, hypnotic score, and terrific production design (those creepy murales stayed with me long afterwards); really worth checking out for those who have yet to do so.
Altman is my favorite director. This is definitely one of his best - probably the most influential on modern auteurs as well.
I have nothing but adoration for this fabulous movie so this is gonna be an easy one for me, I already know exactly which shot I'm going with.
And I will forever love Cannes for having the good sense to give Shelley Duvall their Best Actress award for this. She is all kinds of stunning in it. *bow*
I seriously thought that that first screen shot was from some unknown stop-motion animation film with Barbie dolls. Those are some thin thin bodies (and especially arms). Funny how the brain processes some things...
I loved this movie from the first moment I saw it, in a small theater in Paris. I got the DVD when it came out, and I've watched it periodically since then. The subtle transformation of the relationship between Duvall and Spacek is brilliantly carried out. A classic.

I have a deep abiding love for Shelley Duvall (due to Faerie Tale Theater, which I watched far too often when I was young), Sissy Spacek (due to Carrie), and Robert Altman (due to The Company, the best dance movie ever), so I bought 3 Women the second Criterion released the Blu-Ray. I haven't had time to watch it yet. Needless to say, I'm VERY excited for it this weekend!
I love this film, it really just stays with you.
Shelley Duvall and Sissy Spacek should've replaced the double Best Actress duo from "The Turning Point" in 1977. Anne Bancroft & Shirley MacLaine are not really given the chance to do much in that film. Watching in now in the 21st century, it feels like soap most of the time. Watching "3 Women" feels like entering a unique time zone reserved specifically for it.
