Thoughts I Had... While Staring at the Best Actress Luncheon Photo
They are my sunshine... my only sunshine... they make me happy when skies are gray ♪ ♫
Oscar did real good by Best Actress for once, huh?
It's almost like they color-coordinated their outfits and all agreed that Julianne should be the focal point. But will any of them actually vote for her or does everyone in the Academy vote for themselves?

Have you voted yet on who SHOULD win?
COMMENT FUN #1: Which clip should they use for each Actress at the ceremony?
COMMENT FUN #2: Quick -- trade roles for these actresses. If they had to play someone else's role who would it be? I'm betting Pike could do early onset Alzheimers since she has that ability to completely empty out her face. Enigma! We've already seen Marion in a differently abled wheelchair bound romance so it's easier to picture her as Mrs. Hawkings. Hmmm what else.

I think Marion gives the best performance but since she won already and I love Julianne so much, and she was great, she should win.
Marion should play Julianne. (she already played the psycho bitch in Nolan movies)
Rosamund should play Reese.
Reese should play Marion.
Felicity should play Reese.
Julianne should play God.
Trading roles: Cotillard in Wild, Moore in Gone Girl, Pike in The Theory of Everything, Reese in Still Alice, Jones in Two Days, One Night.
The only show clip I wanna see is the one with Pike going off on the guy hosting the ceremony.
Reese and Felicity win this photo, but I think that's all they'll be winning.
Ooh, love the clip and the trade question!
Clips:
Julianne - The speech
Marion - Her final scene
Rosamund - Showdown in the hospital
Felicity - The break up
Reese - Throwing the shoe, or "What if I forgave myself?"
Switch:
Marion is Amazing Amy
Rosamund is Dr. Alice
Reese is Mrs. Hawking
Felicity is Cheryl Strayed
Julianne is Sandra, and I'm drooling just thinking about it
Julianne in "Two Days, One Night"
Felicity in "Wild"
Marion in "Still Alice"
Reese in "Gone Girl"
Rosamund in "Theory of Everything"
Well Reese originally BOUGHT Gone Girl, so presumably she was intending to play Amy.
Switch:
Reese as Amy.
Rosamund as Alice
Marion as Jane
Julianne as Cheryl
Felicity as Sandra
I love this best actress group. My favorite since 2010! All those girls are killing it in their films (Rosamund literally! lol)
Oscar scenes:
Julianne: the speech
Reese: "I miss you...god I miss you!"
Marion: scene on the stairs with her husband. "I forced the others to pity me!"
Felicity: the breakup scene is by far her best moment in the film.
Rosamund: Scene where Ben slaps her. Although I would freaking love the Neil Patrick Harris death scene but that will never happen lol.
Nat, when are we going to see your Best Actress lineup!?
Clips –
Marion: She's amazing in every scene, but especially during the one in the car with the Petula Clark song.
Rosamund: I love her, but not in this movie – few scenes really registered in a memorable way. I guess "I've killed for you."
Felicity: "Blink to choose," one of her few very strong scenes.
Reese: Snapple! Just kidding. "I miss you, god I miss you," or that scene where she tells the female driver that she's sorry about the death of her child, and the driver responds, "I know you are, sweetheart."
Julianne: Waking Baldwin up in the middle of the night. Or the final scene. Or the speech. Everything is golden!
Pike's clip should be from when she's confronting Dickens in the hospital aka her best moment in the film. If not that then the scene where Amy is posing with Nick for the cameras and tells him to kiss her on the cheek.
Reese: crying about missing her mother or the one SAG used
Juli: peeing herself (maybe too explicit? lol) or the speech
Haven't watched TTOE and 2 days 1 night yet
For so much talk about how weak the best actress field was, the Academy came up with very line up.
The only one here that feels like a filler or a coattail nomination is Jones - in about every other year she would try campaign this role in supporting and would get away easily.
Pretty girls!
Omg, possibilities.
I'm pretty sure that's the cast of a remake of "The Women" or "Steel Magnolias".
Marion - her flummoxed face after Timur apologizes on the soccer field
Reese - "Oh god I miss you..." In the rain
Julianne- How does it feel?
Rosamund- Eating ice cream watching Nick on tv
Felicity- Watching Stephen play croquet.
Honestly I'd love to see all of them do the Gone Girl character except maybe for Reese. And Jones I think would be great in Wild.
Reese - The "I miss you" scene or the scene when she's talking to the other female hiker
Rosamund - I'd love for it to be the scene in the hospital with Dickens, but I think it's going to maybe be the "I'm the c**t you married" scene.
Julianne - If it's not the waking up her husband scene, it's the speech
Jones - It has to be the scene when she tells him she doesn't care. That she's with him after he tells her he's sick. I LOVED that scene.
Marion - It would be amazing if it was the scene on the stairs when the other girl comes and tells her she's going to vote for her, and what Marion says at the end.
1. Who should win? Julianne because she hasn't yet won, and that needs to be fixed.
(but if Moore weren't overdue) I would go for Rosamund Pike - heavy pressure to nail such a well known role and she did.
2. Substitution? I think Marion would have been interesting in Wild. Pike could pull off being a professor since she is an Oxford grad. Moore could probably plead her case to co-workers & succeed. Reese in ToE, I know everyone else would pick Reese for this, but Felicity Jones is more of an unknown quantity and would be better in Gone Girl.
I don't have any real preferences as far as clips are concerned - I just want them each to get a full 30 sec. and for the winner's speech to not be played off. And I hope Julianne Moore gets a standing ovation, because she deserves that kind of respect.
Man, that is a fun picture. It's obvious they like and respect each other and... want to have fun *plays Cyndi Lauper*
I keep finding excuses to look at that picture - I love it so much!
#2 isn't fair to Felicity Jones since all the other four non-boring women are guaranteed to be more interesting than she was in that role.
Great pic.
Some very good roles for women being honored. I think this line up beats the best actor line up and that rarely happens.
Moore will win and it's about damn time. I only wish it had been for a more memorable movie. But whatever. Truly great actresses rarely win for their best movies.
I'm most happy for Reese though. I think people turned on her in a big way after her oscar win and she has one of the least celebrated best actress oscars of recent times. No one talks about that performance. And I don't think anyone should. But she came back in a major way with Wild and she looks like she's having a great time. Good for her.
Cotillard has reached an iconic status at some point. No one thinks she can do any wrong which is understanbable. Hard not to be excited for her although she does not need this honor. Her Dark Knight rises final scene is forgiven.
Pike and Jones stand to benefit the most from their nominations. I don't think Jones deserves to be here. But whatever, hopefully it will lead to some great roles. I'm glad Pike is being recognized if only because I hope we see more and more actresses taking on these roles.
LOVE the Spice Girls analogy. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
But what clips *should* they use?
Julianne - "I'm sorry... I have Alzheimer's," but they'll use the scene when she wakes up Alec Baldwin. I think The Speech is too late in the movie for them to show.
Marion - I'm actually having a hard time finding a specific scene because the most dramatic moments place much of the focus on the co-workers. Maybe the one where she cries while taking meds?
Rosamund - This one's also tough because they wouldn't want to give too much away, I'd think. I'd choose where she yells at him while he plays video games.
Felicity - "Blink to choose," but they'll use the scene where she goes to his room and professes her love.
Reese - The scene with her therapist, but they'll choose the one with the fox since it actually involves her hiking.
That Spice Girls lineup is PERFECT.
The only clip I really want them to use is Reese putting on the backpack for the first time. It is the stuff of LOLs.
LOVE this pic!
Julianne is so winning, but my pike is Rosamund, whose clip should be that "I'm the cunt you married" scene.
Pike in Still Alice
Moore in Gone Girl
Marion in The Theory of...
Reese in 2 Days, 1...
Felicity in Wild
They can't use "I'm the cunt you married" for the clip. Bleep, bleep, bleep. The FCC would lose their cookies. They will probably use the scene where she drives up in the bloody slip. It shows more layers.
Felicity with the letter board.
Reese throwing the shoe.
Marion on the stairs.
Julianne giving the lecture towards the beginning when she is just starting to falter.
I could totally see Reese voting for Julianne. It just seems so...not Tracy Flick.
Ooh, love this idea...
I'd love to see Marion or Julianne do Amazing Amy.
Reese would be interesting in 2 days 1 night, watching her coworkers fight off her natural charisma.
Felicity would be interesting in Wild.
And I guess Rosamund for Still Alice.
Wouldn't really wish Felicity's role on any of the other actresses, though.
Btw, although this pic would be weird with Jennifer Aniston in it, I'm in the middle of Cake right now and she is very good in it. Obviously I'm thrilled that Marion was nominated but I am kinda sad for Jennifer. I think her instead of Felicity would've actually bumped up the caliber of this category.
As for clips...
Reese - I hope it's the "oh god I miss you" because that was her most tragically beautiful moment in the movie. I also love when she throws the shoe, you can just feel her misplaced anger and loss of direction. The scene in the car with her friend was good too, and SAG used it, but I enjoy seeing different clips...
Julianne - I love the scene in bed with Alec Baldwin. The speech scene is good too, but my favorite is "why won't you listen to me?"
Marion - Hmm. I watched it weeks ago so I'm not sure; it's so subtle. Either something in the car with the music or when she puts the window down for air. Or when she falls down crying in her room. Or the argument with her husband "I made them pity me!" I really have no idea lol
Rosamund - I guess "no way. It's me baby. I'm it"
Haven't seen The theory of everything yet, so I can't comment on Felicity's... I'm sorry I just have no interest ;(((
I was hoping this would end with a link to your personal Best Actress ballot :(
My first thought when seeing this picture was wouldn't it be great if Todd Haynes came up with another I'm Not There-style biopic of Madonna and cast all these women? I'd love to see Julianne Moore's spin on the Confessions era.
Marion, I don't understand what you're wearing but I love you.
I on't think it was Reese but the projects she chose which were beneath her gifts as an actress,I prefer Allen in 05 but appreciate Reese's naturalness in the role.
I can't find the link now, but I recently read an interview where Felicity Jones gushed over WILD and said meeting Reese Witherspoon (and Laura Dern too, I think) was the highlight of the award season for her. She said something like "I just wish I could have been a part of the movie." So Felicity Jones in WILD could work on many levels.
Julianne as Cheryl Strayed.
Marion as Jane Hawking.
Rosamund as Still Alice.
Reese as Sandra.
Felicity as Gone Girl.
Not sure I love the last two pairings, but the first three are perfection. And we know Reese herself knows she's not Amy Dunne.
Oh my goddess.
Oh.
My.
Goddess.
It's pleasant to remember what a good job AMPAS did with this line-up compared to other acting categories.
I haven't seen any interviews with Marion since her surprise nomination. Anyone?
BD - She essentially just talks about the shock, how sad she was when Two Days, One Night didn't make the foreign language film cut and how her hopes were dashed bc she wanted to bring the Dardenne (sp?) brothers to the ceremony. And she thought she had no chance of being nominated for Best Actress so when she was, she was extremely happy.
You know, strangely Felicity Jones isn't as young as she looks. She's 31. Herself and Eddie Redmayne (32) make up for the youngest looking thirty-year-olds ever.
Are there pics like this from past luncheons???!!??
All those roles, save for Jones' would be super interesting to swap among the five.
I maintain that if Still Alice was the exact same movie but in French and directed by Ozon or Desplechin or someone, people would love it a lot more. And Marion would be perfect for it in about 15 years. Likewise, Two Days One Night would be an incredible vehicle for any actress but Julianne Moore would be AMAZING in it.
Bryan -- yes. they generally take pics like this.
