Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 11:00AM Since this news arrived yesterday rather than today (I'm not big on April Fools joking myself) we must acknowledge that it is very likely true.
Faye Dunaway will break her silence on playing Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest and will write a book about it, presumably one hopes for a lot of money. Though in truth, Dunaway's silence on the film has been exaggerated over the years. She did include a chapter on it in her first autobiography "Looking for Gatsby" which was published in 1995
In ye olden days before the internet this future tell-all or tell-partial (who knows) would have been an instant best-seller but I always wonder about gossip-appeal celebrity books post, say, 2000 or so. Do they actually sell? Before they're even released we generally get laundry lists of secrets revealed in list-form on every website, muting the need to pick it up. Or rather order it. Book stores....*sniffle* (300 BC - 2011 AD) R.I.P.
Nevertheless we thank Faye and the media for this news which couldn't have arrived with more fortuitous timing since we'll be discussing Mommie Dearest today for Hit Me With Your Best Shot and you've already been voting on Christina vs. Joan (you've voted, right?) If you're eager to get to the slapping and screaming and sass of the infamous movie, these websites posted their best shot entries early so have at it with gusto: Where are the Advertisers, A Fistful of Films, Drink Your Juice, Shelby, and I Want to Believe.

Hmm...what more is there even to say on the subject other than that Dunaway gave a committed performance in a film that needed to be (psychiatrically) committed?

I always thought if she just put her pride aside and embraced the movie, she might get a career boost.
This whole film/story/experience has always fascinated me, but controversial celebrity scandal is always, always interesting. I'd love to read all of Dunaway's thoughts. I also hope she has a chapter in their addressing her feud with Hilary Duff, which was like the greatest thing ever a few years ago.

I sincerely hope Faye titles it, "Not My First Rodeo: The Story of Mommie Dearest and My Struggle to Overcome", and I will be buying this at midnight on whatever day it is released.
I love Faye Dunaway and she rocks in this movie. She should mention that she just missed out on the NYFCC and NSFC for Best Actress for it.

She talks about the movie briefly with James Lipton. I think she had a hard time saying no to his charming self, and she actually appears to be amused.
I have her bio... it's pretty interesting. She didn't hold back on Otto Preminger and Polanski!

I can't recall another female movie star who starred in multiple classics take such a career tumble. I find it strange that one movie could have such an impact on her career, especially if you weigh it against Bonnie and Clyde, Chinatown and Network. I suspect since she didn't cultivate an everywoman persona, the roles dried up as she got older.

Hollywood used the critical failure of Mommie Dearest as an excuse to do away with Dunaway. For every woman who has a bitch reputation in the business the moment they fail they are shown the door. Patriarchal...you know the rest.
