Happy Pride Weekend ~ Open Thread
Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 9:10PM We've taken the weekend off but for the big 1948 Smackdown tomorrow... which is plenty!
But what's on your cinematic mind in this crazy joyful weekend of SCOTUS rulings, unprecedented Presidential speeches ("Amazing Grace" - just...wow), and parades? Will you have time for movies?
Is any particular movie/actor/director/theme on your mind?

I have been thinking about The Manchurian Candidate (1962), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) and The Harvey Girls (1946) the past couple of days for various reasons, none of them having to do with Angela Lansbury.
I attempted to watch Mommy in anticipation of Xavier Dolan's collaborations with Cotillard, Chastain, Sarandon, and Bates. Well I made it just under the hour mark. I hate this movie and I am completely unsure if I should finish the movie. I really dislike the lead male character to the point where I want to see him die at the end of the movie if not sooner.
I saw Testament of Youth. Alicia Vikander is having an amazing year, and it's just warming up.
As always, thinking of Jennifer Jones. Sigh.

I have been thinking of the 73 Best Actress roster and wondered if K Hepburn was considered a candidate for a lead nomination in A Delcate Balance.

I just mentioned to my best friend last night that although I dislike the laziness of screen-to-stage musical adaptations, for some reason I'd love to see one for either Waiting to Exhale or The Five Heartbeats.

Is Chris Pratt the new Kurt Russell- they are both likeable actor, have the body for action movies but can still be funny.
Troy -- i don't even know what the five heartbeats is but i have this same thing every once in a while with a screen to stage thing. I'm like "that could be great"... but they rarely are. too few artists seem to realize that you have to substantialy reinvent for a whole new medium.

Not a revelation considering your priorities. Not even sure if you should ever watch it. I doubt the music of the era the movie chronicles is your thing either.
