Teasing "The Revenant"

We don't yes no maybe so teasers but if we did this would be a YES with the small NO of "can already tell we won't be able to tell all these bearded sweaty fur clad men apart during action sequences and mayb even some closeups"

As our Oscar charts have suggested all year we expect this one to go over well but this very gripping teaser makes you wonder: Could Inarittu win Best Director back-to-back? It has only happened twice before and that was several decades back (John Ford won for Grapes of Wrath and How Green Was My Valley (1940/1941) and Joseph L Mankiewicz for A Letter To Three Wives and All About Eve (1949/1950). No one has ever won Best Picture back-to-back... though David O. Selznick would have in 1939 (Gone With the Wind) and 1940 (Rebecca) if they had awarded Best Picture to producers back then as they do now. Four men have won Best Cinematography twice consecutively including Emmanuel Lubezki(Gravity & Birdman) and since he's lensing this one in what looks like continuous shots with only natural light, he could conceivably break the record and be the sole most consecutive Oscar winning DP.

I'm a HEAVY maybe. I mean: Nothing less than a 90% RT score could convince me this is worth the risk. I mean: I can't identify any major difference between the aesthetic palate of this movie and the aesthetic palate of Man of Steel and this is one of the few cases I've seen where the self conscious grey filtering might have been justified.
There's definitely a ceiling to how excited I can be for movies that are so male-focused. It looks good and I very well might enjoy it, but I don't generally get super excited about "boy" movies.
This looks wonderfully shot! I will definitely be seeing this one in the theatre.

That being said, I don't expect the Academy to go gaga over this movie by giving it either Picture or Director or both. Is it just me or does the trailer have that non-stop, in-your-face action style of Mad Max: Fury Road's trailer? I hate modern movie trailers, by the way.
100% yes based off that. EXCELLENT teaser, yes? Looking forward to trailer but let's hope they keep the story points tight lipped. If I were mores disciplined I'd just let the film surprise me.

Visually gorgeous. Main worry; Leo isn't at his best when silent. His way with words is especially good. His way with insular, not always so much.
Agree with Brianz: too intense in Shutter Island. He's better when he's loose, like in Titanic or even What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Hopefully, Inarritu can bring out his best.
This actually makes me really interested in Leo's performance, something I haven't felt for many years with his movies. I agree it looks beautifully shot... I'm a YES and would rather go into not having seen a "full" trailer, this teaser is sufficient (if a little too violence-centric).
Also, Paul Haggis would have won Best Picture in two consecutive years if his producer credit on Million Dollar Baby had resulted in his being one of the nominated producers. Alas, in the 'rule of three', he was the fourth, and left out.
YES. Inarritu and Chivo + Leo, Domnall, (who has been excellent lately!), and Tom Hardy... It's going to be good. Great, hopefully. I love the misty image of the trees at the end. I'm hoping that image hints more at the tone and mood of the film than all the horseback panting. In the meanwhile I'll be valiantly trying to read the novel and catch up on Innaritu's full filmography.
Anyone think Leo will campaign for the Oscar this time round.
I'm a "No" for this one. At this time, I've just had a surfeit of casts of men movies.
DiCaprio also has no appeal for me, especially when he's wearing his angry-boy face, and the movie is about how he suffers.
The location where it's shot is where I often go on vacation, and I think really, that's how they're going to make that location look? Sucking all the life out of it? And that's the only story they can think of happening in that place? Sheesh.

This is a slamdunk win for Leo so stop all the cynicism. He's due and deserves the Actor for this.

The teaser got me really intrigued. I will see it for sure but I don´t see Iñarritu winning again, regardless of how good the movie is. There are so many options to award for the first time (and non-consecutive second) that it seems impossible. Lubezki, on the other hand, seems likely. After all, he is really one of the very best.
Not really sure what is so thrilling with this Dicaprio performance? Was that 2 minutes of heavy breathing?

Interesting but it looks dark as hell- DiCaprio should have gotten an Oscar by now.
