Uggie (2002-2015)

Sad news. Uggie, the dog star of 2011's Best Picture The Artist is no longer with us. He lived to be 13. I'm not even a dog person as you know but he was a cinematic delight and my chin started trembling when I read the news.

After the jump, some adorable photos of this superstar dog and celebrities he loved and licked. Join us in a sing-along of "God Loves a Terrier" via Best in Show while you peruse the pics.

RIP Uggie.
His Wikipedia page is a trip, by the way. That is a dog's life lived well!

Like Nat, I'm not really a dog person, but I adored Uggie.

Peggy Sue, you're right about him appearing in the memorial tribute at the Oscars.

Wow, 13 is a little young for a Jack Russell to be passing on, too. Too bad.

I hope Cosmo (from Beginners)is doing fine. RIP Uggie.

My grief is mountainous. I'm not a dog fan either, but come ON. I could watch that scene of him and Dujardin at the breakfast table for EVER.

OMG that gif reminded me that Jean Dujardin was SO GREAT. My favorite best actor of the century except for the Daniel Day-Lewis wins.

There can never be enough Uggie in the world. Thank you for bringing so much joy!

... and all dogs go to heaven. Period. But not all dogs become film icons, and Uggie certainly did. A 3rd of the Best Picture Oscar belongs to Uggie and his human friend & trainer.

I would totally lick Jean Dujardin.

Uggie is up there with Asta from The Thin Man and Terry from The Wizard of Oz as far as iconic movie canines go. What a great little mascot he was for that film's awards season run. RIP

Oh man, I'm going to miss that dog.

I'm not even an animal person, but yeah this hit me hard. Also I just found out today that a friend of mine was the one who created the Wiki page for him. So random! RIP Uggie!

See, this is why it's hard for me to watch (not even) old movies: the animals who enthral and delight usually pass on way too soon. RIP, Uggie.

This is just horrible :(

August 13, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersati

@Peggy Sue, Is there a way to start a petition to get him included in the memorial?

August 13, 2015 | Unregistered Commentervladdy

Oh Uggie! RIP. :-(((

Cats are disgusting creatures, BTW.
