With Six You Get Link-Roll

Pajiba Max Headroom was in The Knick ?!
Variety Jacob Trembly impresses opposite Brie Larson in Room which may have an awards future
NPR interviews Patricia Clarkson on her screen evolution from The Untouchables (1987) to Learning to Drive (2015)
AV Club Chris Evans happy to renew Marvel Studios contract - remember when he was considering not taking the role?
Awards Daily & Variety both love Steve Jobs and its "enthralling" leading man Michael Fassbender. I only skimmed (since I don't like to read reviews before seeing a picture) but most promising is that both reviews suggest that every actor brings it and that it's not at all a typical biopic in its construction or moods. Yay

And given the fresh spate of reviews and festival excitement, I've updated the BEST ACTOR PREDICTION CHART with Depp, Elba, Hardy, Fassbender, and others rising with strong reception to their work. More charts to follow

So is Keaton going to be campaigned as lead for Spotlight? I have heard they are campaigning Ruffalo as lead and Keaton as supporting, even though Keaton has the larger role, because they believe Keaton can win in supporting. I know the world consists of Keaton fans, but I'd love to see Ruffalo finally have a shot at an Oscar, and he might have a chance if he went supporting this year - it would be his second consecutive supporting nod in a potentially big Oscar movie.

Also, did you see Feinberg's piece on the Rooney Mara tribute in Telluride? Apparently Mara is going to be campaigned in lead for Carol now and Blanchett is going to be campaigned in supporting (Blanchett is going for a double nomination this year; she is campaigning for lead in Truth).

Mr Evans is no fool...

I'm confused by the ongoing Aretha Franklin docu dispute - shouldn't it be fairly simple to determine what kind of release she did or didn't sign? And even then it feels like bad form to release performance footage against the wishes of the performer.

The possibility of Fassbender and Mulligan winning the leading races is quite exciting for the simple fact they were royally snubbed for their stellar work in Shame. First McQueen wins and then they win together seems like poetic justice.

Sorry, but I don't really buy Compton getting less than 4 nominations. It has the right reviews, it's in the right genre and, most importantly, it's too BIG to be forgotten.

Volvagia -- i'm not sure what you mean since this post isn't about that movie or about that movie's Oscar potential but there are a lot of movies that do well financially that ARE forgotten come Oscar time. It's a complicated mix of reviews, precursor support, timing, genre, campaigning, media interest, and various other less tangible things for Oscar play. I wonder if the precursors will bite. We'll see.

I know it's early, but it does feel like Keaton's category choice will really be key. The "Spotlight" reviews are stellar, and he's primed for a good old-fashioned "whole career/sorry about last year" win - especially if he's up against Redmayne a second time.

Suzanne - re Cate and category Anne Thompson said on twitter that she checked with her agent and Cate is def lead, That report must be false. I trust Thompson, she always goes to the source.

@Volvagia

Nathaniel has not seen Straight Outta Compton unaware of its merits. I hope he sees it theatrically but I have the feeling he'll wait until the screener arrives.

I saw Meru and it's chilling if you can ignore the The North Face product placement. A4 rock climbers are their own kind of crazy. Chasing Ice on Net Flix is also quite good.

Fassy and Mulligan would be an Oscar goes non-American best actor/actress evening, which I am okay with but it will test Hollywood's chip on the shoulder (towards Brits taking lead in acting and the deep pockets of Depp and Lawrence, who bore me). Did Amber Heard really need to smuggle dogs into Australia? I eagerly await her trial.

Michael Fassbender "enthralling" as Steve Jobs? Let's not forget Ashton Kutcher's Jobs, who was "scrumtrulescent!"
