Annette Bening NEEDS to win her damn Oscar already! She should've already won for The Grifters and American Beauty.

Why is anyone looking forward to Rogue One? What I've seen of the performance so far, and the ink Jones has given (you don't look to "floaty" and "ethereal" as performance cues unless you're playing Luna freaking Lovegood or something similar) on her performance inspirations, mean the lead turn is probably going to be like Burton Alice or Far From the Madding Crowd 2015 all over again. If DeNiro said he researched for Raging Bull by hanging around Jeff Dowd, we'd look at him like he was totally deranged, right?

Small note about Waiting for the Barbarians: the book didn't win the Nobel Prize, its author, J. M. Coetzee, won the 2003 Nobel Prize in Literature. The book did, however, win various other prizes, including the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, which is, I think, the UK's oldest literature prize. It's an excellent novel - and Coetzee has written many other great novels. Filming Coetzee's work is tough to do, because a large part of the effectivess of his work comes from his prose style.

I know I'm petty for this, but I want Viola in Lead Actress. Either way, she's going to be the first black actress to receive three nominations. She was already only the second to get two (joining Whoopi--Oprah would've joined the list had she not been snubbed for The Butler). And if she's nominated in leading she'll be the first black actress to be nominated twice as a lead actress too.

You're not petty Philip. I have no faith in Hollywood. Hence anxiousness on my part for Davis to win this year in BA. Afterwards, I'll no longer concern myself with nonwhite actresses winning in BA.

I know I'm not the only one who remembered Dangerous Minds after Dylan won the Nobel Prize.

Can't we have a Drag Race Superhero movie, now that would be fun to cast and obviously would have better costumes.

After watching the presentation on Dylan I realised I don't like his songs at all.

Hey Warner Bros., instead of five cash grab Potter movies, how about you give us a Nice Guys sequel. I know the box office grosses don't justify a sequel. But I want more of Gosling and Crowe being funny together. This is why a lot of us can't have nice things, huh?

Also, I love that Rogue One poster. To me, that is how more film casts should look.

Nat - the Daily Beast link actually goes to the Hollywood Reporter article.

Sasha Stone's delusions have truly hit new heights if she thinks Devin Faraci's career is something to be mourned. He was a pig, a professional fanboy, and a blatant misogynist. Good riddance.

On a lighter note, that Guerra project looks great. Shame it'll be drowned out by cashgrabs.

October 14, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAR

That Faraci story is shocking. I listen to The Canon all the time, and I have enjoyed his views and comedy. How horrible for that woman.

October 14, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Annette and Viola are the ones who have real narrative to win. So please let it just be either one of them who goes supporting, not both. Therefore, there would be more chance for both to win.

October 14, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterCraver

I would say let Annette and Viola battle it out - now that would be fair and interesting instead of another category fraud.

The Film Comment article had the opposite effect of what was intended.

I was willing to entertain the apparent thesis that film criticism should be full of passion, intelligence, expertise, and thoughtfulness. At the end of the incredibly long winded article, I began to see the value of the brevity of tweets.

The writer is a poor choice of proponent for his thesis. He doesn't write particularly well, he certainly doesn't know how to edit, and he seems to long to be a strict gatekeeper and indulge in lengthy mansplaining.

Thanks for delivering such updated information about the Bollywood entertainment as well as about the recent movies. Click topicsmill.co source for getting help in short story writing. I have seen some of these movies like Rogue One and Deadline which were really interesting.
