Rachel, Rachel. Link, Link.

Rachel Rachel! No not the 1968 Oscar nominated Paul Newman / Joanne Woodward movie. But Weiz and McAdams. They're set to co-star in a Jewish lesbian romantic drama Disobedience. Good luck to whichever lesbian romantic drama with A list actresses has to follow Carol. Is this the next one that'll see release?

Interview Magazine talks to the incomparable Parker Posey on her improvisatory work with Christopher Guest (including the new Netflix film Mascots premiering October 13th)

Parker Posey photographed by Craig Mcdean for Interview

Some of these scenes last, like, 15 minutes. And it's so disappointing when you see the final cut. You bring so much of your life and your story, and then it's just whittled away, you know? Chris likes his movies to really fly, to leave the audience wanting more—which is the rule of comedy. So his movies are kind of short. I like a three-and-a-half-hour documentary. I like Frederick Wiseman, Grey Gardens[1976] ... I'd love these movies to be so much longer than they are. You should see what Jane Lynch and Ed Begley Jr., and Michael Hitchcock and Don Lake come up with, by the minute.

Hey Nat, love your site. If you ever get a chance I request a post taking a look back ten years later at The Departed! That movie never gets old for me.

Is anyone else dreading who they'll cast as Mulan? You'd hope Rooney Mara and Emma Stone wouldn't dare but with Hollyweird - you never know!

Any opportunity to re-share Parkey Posey's deleted "audition" scene from Waiting for Guffman, which has blessedly made its way back onto YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jQ0SbWYdgQ

I have to say I disagree with Leo about climate change deniers holding public office. In the broadest sense of the terms being wrong or even, in this case, being gloriously dense in the face of overwhelming evidence should not be a bar to seeking public office. Otherwise where do we draw the line, after all most politicians will take a stance at one point that is incorrect.

However we the voting public should robustly challenge the views and vote for candidates able to process facts.

It's our responsibility to weed out the bad, sad and mad politicians, not something which should be legislated.

I think Disney will be smart when casting Mulan. They obviously didn't need a big name to play Cinderella, so why would they run the risk of alienating the audience by poor racial casting?

October 5, 2016 | Unregistered Commentercash

Wasn't Ziyi Zhang going to play Mulan a while ago? Can that still happen?

Gr8 piece on Posey thanks for the link,I wanna see the extended cuts.

"Chris likes his movies to really fly, to leave the audience wanting more—which is the rule of comedy. So his movies are kind of short."

Then why all the comedies now are two hours long?

Parker Posey was my favorite thing of Irrational Man and Café Society.

Then why all the comedies now are two hours long?

Judd Apatow

I agree with Lucien about politically correct politicians, tell it like it is not what we would prefer to hear,I think Trunmp goes way overboard.,I don't envy the choice you USA
citizens have to make.

Peggy Sue & /3rtful: Directors being too attached to too much is a huge problem. Apatow started it, yes, and directors following his level of investment has resulted in the most barren wasteland in American comedy EVER. Unless you're working with a Peter Sellers level giant (and even then, Dr. Strangelove is still only 95 minutes, guys), maybe stick to the script first?

"Weisz and McAdams are set to co-star in a Jewish lesbian romantic drama Disobedience"

Ooh, I wonder whether the director who went with these casting choices is a straight man or a gay woman.... I really wonder...

October 5, 2016 | Unregistered Commentergoran

Disobedience might shoot to my list of anticipated films for 2017 if it comes out next year along with other films starting with the letter D:

Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and the Winston Churchill biopic Darkest Hour starring Gary Oldman, John Hurt, Ben Mendelsohn, and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Lucian, Lucian, Lucian. Listen to Sara Silverman, why doncha?

October 5, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterken s

It's seven years since Glee debuted and I'm still sick to death of Jane Lynch. I hate to say it because I've always enjoyed her in the Guest movies.

October 5, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterHayden W.

I don't envy the choice you USA citizens have to make.

People still think there's a choice? Unbelievable.

Hayden W. -- That show ended so many careers!

Matt St.Clair: After The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, Nolan's going to have to deliver something really special to convince me he's worth a cinema trip.

October 5, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

Mulan: They'll probably go with Rinko (she's the closest thing to a "star Asian" right now), and it wouldn't be a bad choice.
Iron Fist: Okay. March. In spite of how iffy that character NOT being Asian-American is for a 2017 show, I'll still try it. Also: The Punisher show has started filming. So, that will probably drop in August or September 2017. And The Defenders (aka, if the teaser is any indication, kind of Daredevil S2.5, which means I'm kind of locked in) is probably just about ready to start filming and might drop in November 2017. Now, how do I feel about a PUNISHER show? Even with Jon Bernthal, I'm at a "Franken-Castle or get out" (it's kind of ridiculous, but I'd argue, pound for pound, it's the best Punisher story EVER) perspective, basically, at least as far as the guy being the main character. As a side character, he's fine.

October 5, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

Peggy Sue - Right. Glee both started and ended many careers, lol. I saw Chris Colfer at a comedy show recently here in LA and I kinda wanted to be like "hey whats up whatcha working on right now"

Volvagia - Rinko is Japanese, not Chinese. I think/hope Disney will be accurate in this casting decision. I remember hearing something about Zhang Ziyi, but Idk.

October 6, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip H.

Philip H: Okay, but compared to say, JLaw getting it, I'd consider that the far lesser of two evils.
