La La Land's Soundtrack and "City of Stars"

Chris here. Rejoice musical lovers - we can finally hear a full number from La La Land! The complete soundtrack drops December 9 when the film opens in limited release, so those clammoring to hear the full version of Emma Stone's potential Oscar moment "Audition" will still have to wait. We've heard a glimpse of "City of Stars" in the film's first teaser many months ago, but here is Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in full glory:

This year's Best Song race is potentially one of the most heated in many years with La La Land's tunes likely going head-to-head against Lin-Manuel Miranda's chance at EGOTing for Moana. It could make for one of the starriest lineups in some time with pop stars like Sia, Alicia Keys, and Justin Timberlake as possible performers/nominees. Let's just hope the ceremony doesn't shove off their lesser known nominees again this year!

What original songs are you rooting for?

The song's great. I can't wait.

But the Best Song category always seems to be more exciting before actual nominations are given out (then again isn't that true for all the categories?). I'm sure there's going to be a head-scratcher inclusion or snub like almost every year...

I'm seeing this tonight. Let the rooting begin!

I hope Alicia Keys' Back To Life gets in together with Moana and La La Land. And why not one of Pharrell' songs for Hidden Figures. And Timberlake must be left out.

I actually don't think La La will win. I see Pharrell or Lin Manuel winning.

I'm rooting for No Dames from Hail Caesar. In a less competitive year (and if the movie campaigned) it would be a fantastic nominee.

I'd like to see this category eliminated

I think this song is such a letdown. Of course it will be better in context, when the full depth of the emotions and their interaction with each other becomes clear. But as a standalone musical duet? Honestly sort of dull and uninspired... The inklings of the group numbers that have been showing up in the last couple trailers are much more exciting to me.

Still, very much looking forward to LA LA LAND. Original, modern-day musicals are few and far between!

I'm praying a song from Sing Street gets in, hopefully "Drive It Like You Stole It."

Tori Amos "Flicker" for "Audrie & Daisy. The Hollywood Reporter has already made the first roundtable of potential candidates:

Are the songs from Sing Street eligible? My favorite is To Find You but I imagine something more upbeat might get nominated. I'd just like to see Ferdia sing at the Oscars!

CineMatt / Dave - Unfortunately word is that only the Adam Levine track at the end will be pushed :'-(

Luis - true to form, Tori gives gooooood quote in that roundtable

Warning: Your Mileage May Vary.

Stone sounds so much better than Gosling here, it is distracting almost.

Rooting for Moana but hope a competitive field.

I'm rooting for "Sing Street"
