I loved those 'Series of Unfortunate Events' books as a kid, and was really looking forward to the Netflix series, but...Neil Patrick Harris is a huge no. He's so smug and annoying.
If you're a Republican, it's perfectly ok if you just stay at home and sit this one out.
McAdams has no instincts. She auditioned for Sue Storm in Fantastic Four (the one with Jessica Alba) and turned down the offer to play Pepper Potts. Now, granted, Sue Storm has a larger role but clearly the Iron Man movies are better written and were going to be more popular. If you're going to be a Marvel lady (who are more often than not reduced to being love interests) why wouldn't you be the one that's probably going to pay better, be better written, etc? Pocket the cash and make smaller films you're passionate about in-between franchise films, use the exposure to your advantage! She was heavily courted by studios to be the new romcom queen but she refused that too. On the one hand, it can be a bit limiting. On the other hand, her dewy peaches 'n cream beauty and her 'charm' are her two biggest assets and America hasn't had a proper America's Sweetheart in quite some time.
She's made it clear with her mainstream choices that she wants mainstream success but she doesn't make the right choices for that. She's not really the right type, physically or acting-wise, for dark, moody dramatic films in my opinion. She just doesn't have that kind of depth to her. She's not exactly racking up the stage or indie film credits, or embracing comedy.
She's like a non-starter. Portman does what she wants, works on a movie because she likes the concept or wants to work with a particular director. Knightley is kind of the same. Both will turn down a big movie to do something smaller just because that's what they want. Dunst kind of lost her footing but now I think she's got a mentality closer to Portman and Knightley. Lawrence wants to do every major mainstream role for actresses ages 23-45, be it a glorified Lifetime movie about a near middle-aged woman inventing a mop, a teenage girl leading a rebellion in a YA dystopian film, to whatever the hell O. Russell's doing.
Emma Stone seems like what Rachel McAdams was supposed to be; the charming ingenue, gifted in comedy with charisma for miles, who starts in teen comedies and romances, does a little of this and a little of that, before transitioning into more mature films while still embracing the genres that made her popular to begin with. (I think that had McAdams been offered something like La La Land she would've turned it down.) She has better instincts, more personality, and is physically more versatile.
Never got the big deal about McAdams.
