Billboard the NACCP announced their annual Image Award nominations. As per usual they are extremely mainstream, so even if you have a black cast in a brilliant movie with a low profile you won't make it: The Fits didn't show up this year even though the NAACP actually has an independent film category. Instead they just doubled up with more 60% of thier Best Pic category also being nominated for Indie Film, like so:

NYT Their annual "Great Performances" special is up with incredible photographs of Best Actress probables like Huppert, Negga, and Portman, as well as the three Chirons from Moonlight, and less expected choices like Royalty Hightower from The Fits (yay!) and Kristen Stewart (in general)
AAFCA The African American Film Critics Association split their prizes up amongst Moonlight, Hidden Figures, and Fences. Loving nabbed best actress for Ruth Negga
DFW the Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association handed Moonlight Film and Director prizes today and went with all the Critics Choice favorites for acting. It's that time of year when everyone wants to start celebrating the exact same four people. It's an impulse we've never begun to understand in all our years doing this.

The most shocking portion of the Image Awards was the inclusion of Angela Bassett for London Has Fallen. Did anyone actually watch that trash? It was blatantly racist, and she dies in a plane crash after doing nothing of value in the early movie. That one pissed me off with Royalty Hightower or Carmen Ejogo (Born to Be Blue) in the mix. Surprised to see Naomie Harris absent in Supporting Actress and disappointed Craig Robinson and Markees Christmas missed out for Morris from America.

Beyonce and Solange are competing against each other in every category they're nominated in at the Image Awards except two. Beyonce has six nominations total, Solange five. It's like Venus and Serena all over again. (It's nice to see little sis getting her props.)

Crazy in Love and Single Ladies will be played for years to come. It is an R&B classic. Madonna's pop discography just did not age well. It does not mean her career trajectory will be applied to everyone else. I mean look at how successful All I Want for Christmas still is.
I'm sorry but the hits which a lot are classic pop or near classic,the impact Madonna has had should never be taken for granted,maybe we shouldn't compare but Beyoncé is not Madonna,I still don't understand Beyoncé's appeal,she shouts most of her songs and comes over as a big phony and can't act either though neither can Madonna,Madonna did it all first inc B and W videos Beyonce.
I could go on but a lot of younger people want to bring Madonna down and I don't know why.
beyaccount -- you're misinterpreting what I wrote. I didn't mean the radio wouldn't play Beyonce's classic songs. They absolutely will (especially those two songs). The radio still plays Madonna's classics on occasion. I meant that when Beyonce is releasing albums when she's 45 the music industry will start being all "ooh she's old" and stop playing her new stuff. and whoever is popular at the time (who is 30 or under) everyone will be like "SHE'S THE ONE! BEYONCE IS OVER!"
we've seen this happen before. It's a pattern. It's not about Madonna. It's not Adele. It's not about Beyonce. It's not about Lady Gaga. It's about ageism and sexism. Hopefully the world gets better about overcoming these things.
Madonna has classics that are being played and will still be played for years to come.
I have to disagree with Beyonce though. Her song "Crazy in Love" was named the song of the decade by numerous music publications, and her "Single Ladies" was not too far behind. My personal favorite is "Irreplaceable" -which is as infectious as any pop song could possibly be. Plus, "Love on Top" and "Halo" have become wedding staples.
She did the mainstream route last decade, and chose to tap on her artistry this decade. No recent pop superstar of the past 20 years or so was able to morph into this universally acclaimed artist like she has. No wonder a THR actress roundtable a few years ago saw Reese Witherspoon, Hillary Swank and Amy Adams gushing over how they want to be like her.

Mariah was releasing her best material a few years ago, but since she was considered old, radio forgot about her.
Madonna will never get the same respect etc like her male counterparts 'cos she is a woman and probably would rather be a man,this has been her message since the beginning,

Patrick Wilson is the villain in Aquaman? Um...after three critical bombs in a row for the DCXU, I'd call this yet more par for the course. (I'd honestly expect the start of COMMERCIAL bombs if the quality level doesn't start raising.)

People really don´t get Madonna. From 1989 throught 2003 she released albums that were pop and rooted in the underground ,and even more radical:not youth oriented. She was releasing pop for grown-ups, and her issues were from sexual politics, religion, pain, HIV, lost of a parent, loneliness, divorce, feeling unwanted... that´s not easy to say in pop music.
And as she aged, people are telling how she should act to still get mainstream attention, but people son´t tell man how they should act, do they? NOOOOOOOO! That´s her whole point! Women over 40 should act like women under 40, cause there´s no right way to age, behave or being for women, or men.
Madonna is the true queen of pop!
This is the very definition of crazy talk. Even her ballads from the period before her...um, singing lessons are pop classics that continue to get radio play. I'm talking about "Live to Tell" and "Crazy for You," among others.
And her dance-pop hits? "Holiday" alone from the first album will outlast "Crazy in Love," if its current longevity is any indication, and her string of classics from 1984-90 is a very secure legacy that has nothing to fear from Beyonce, Gaga, Taylor, Katy or any of these younger ladies.
And I'm not even a Madonna super-fan.

You mention Cyndi and I immediately think of "Time After Time," "I Drove All Night," "She Bop," "When U Were Mine," "All Through the Night" and "True Colors." Not too shabby.
Paul Outlaw: I didn't mean to imply I think classic Lauper was TERRIBLE (we're not talking Limp Bizkit up in here), but on overall discography, if it was a choice between a world without classic Lauper and a world without classic Madonna...? I'd go with keeping Madonna in a heartbeat.
Migue, I'm in full agreement about Mariah; her last studio album is among one of the best in her canon, but radio does not play women over 40. Gwen Stefani did an arena tour and I had a free ticket; the place was barely half-full and only the diehards in the front row recognized anything from her new album.
