MTV Movie Awards Really Love Daisy Ridley
Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 6:01PM The Oscars are apparently not the end of awards season, as the MTV Movie Awards nominations were announced today. Star Wars: The Force Awakens led the field with 11 nods and despite being in theaters for less than a month Deadpool scored 8 nominations. Joining the two in the best film category are Avengers: Age of Ultron (6 nominations), Creed (only one other nomination for its star Michael B. Jordan), Jurassic World (3 nominations) and Straight Outta Compton (3 nominations).
Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley also received lots of love with 4 nominations (female performance, breakthrough performance, hero and best fight). The last shared with Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren.
Other multiple nominees include Jennifer Lawrence who was nominated for both Joy (female performance) and the latest Hunger Games ( action performance and best hero). Will Smith was also nominated for two movies, Concussion (male performance) and Focus (best kiss shared with Margot Robbie). Leonardo DiCaprio scored a double, although he had to share one with Judy the Bear for best fight.
A new category was introduced this year, for best true story. Perplexing because it’s for narrative films that are based on factual stories but are not documentaries. Hey, if the Oscars can have two categories for screenplay!!
There’s also a prize for best virtual performance, a grab bag mix of motion capture and voice performances. So we get the interesting clash of Amy Poehler (Inside Out) vs. Lupita Nýongo (The Force Awakens) vs. James Spader (Age of Ultron).

I dont understand how Mad Max was not nominated for best movie!
How anyone enjoyed Jurassic World beyond feelings of nostalgia for the original is completely beyond my comprehension.
Also, how did they forget about Charlize for Best Action Performance?!
I love the MTV Movie Awards nominations because they're always this really bonkers and out-of-touch combination of "What do the youths like?" (Deadpool) and "What would people see as a Serious Nominee™?" (Will Smith in Concussion).
The Academy should absolutely copy "virtual performance"

I like their categories like "scared as sh*t-performance" or "best shirtless performance", but there aren't any this year.... Not even a best musical moment? 8(

MTV movie awards has a documentary category now? Did they always have that or did they just get serious in the last couple of years? I remember there used to be a "best kick-ass performance," which was pretty fun
