Melinkia

Variety Emmys are revoking Peter MacNicol's "Guest Actor" nomination for Veep since he appeared in 50% of the episodes (it's supposed to be under 50% a rule we support after years of abuse by studios and actors) but who gets his spot? Stay tuned.

The Film Stage chooses the 50 best sci-fi films this century thus far. 50 is a lot for 16 years. The top ten feels substantial but I can't forgive them for having The Lobster so low it's practically sitting alongside those terrible Matrix sequels and Ex-Machina and Mad Max Fury Road not in the top ten feels... well, these lists are made to get people riled up (and clicking) so I'll stop there.

Today's Watch
If you haven't yet seen this bit from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, you must. Longtime readers will know that TFE worships Broadway musical star Laura Benanti. Her voice is spectacular but her comic skills are just as strong. Here she is doing Melania Trump just one day after people noticed their resemblance. [Hat tip: Vulture]

And James Corden gets both FLOTUS and Missy Elliott in the car (Holla!) for some Carpool Karaoke and talk about "Let Girls Learn". Joyful. Inspiring. Just what we need right now.

Why they want to make her the nominee of the show even he run out from there after performing only 50% in the shows? If a person cannot perform the whole show then, why should be allow with the new chances.

Thanks for the Bates link, I always wanted to read this article. I feel the effort she is putting into the universe a second Oscar, a triple crown, or both is in her future.

Michelle Obama rocks!

I never watched Gilmore Girls but I can't believe Joey wasn't an option on their 'Worst character in Friends' post. I kind of agree with Mark about Corden.

Nat: I know arguing for more categories is usually read as insane, but I'd argue there actually should be four acting categories for TV:

1. Lead (Every episode, typically focal point)
2. Supporting (More than 75% of episodes)
3. Recurring (50%-75% of episodes)
4. Guest (<50%)

Would this work?

The review of Tarzan makes me want to go see it now on the biggest screen possible.

Peter Scolari

The Melania Trump impression was uncanny (to the point where I actually thought it was her when she came out) but man could she use better material.

Rooting for you Colbert...

Benania or are we using Melanti ? Nice to see Benanti get some attention, she still hasn't hosted SNL !!! Now would be a great time.

Michelle Obama continues to impress, she has a decent voice, great sense of humour, and even remembers the dance moves to "Single Ladies". Brava!!

Laura Benanti should be worshipped.

Joshua Jackson is fantastic in The Affair. Everyone is excellent on that show

The last "Divergent" movie was dull- they made a lot of stupid mistakes- like killing one of the hottest villains in the last movie- the series seemed to have run out of ideas ( and it was never that original to begin with) I did like it's retro sci-fi moment and the guy who played Four (Theo James)

The Kathy Bates interview is priceless. I love her.

thank you for the link to the Tarzan review. That was great. Now I have to see the movie.

I know rules are rules, but I do feel a little sorry for Peter MacNicol since it truly is a fleeting appearance in Ep 9 where he basically just appears in the background of Catherine's documentary. Having said that, hard to be mad when Peter Scolari gets in for his wonderful performance on Girls...

July 22, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterben1283

I agree that revoking MacNicol's nomination is correct, but I feel like someone should vet the nominees in that category before they're announced so we don't see an actor dashed that way.
