Beauty vs Beast: What is the Word?
Jason from MNPP here, on the verge of admitting something that might get me lynched a la Frankenstein's Monster round these parts -- I have never seen Grease. Yes, that Grease. The movie Grease. I think I'd get less incredulous looks from my fellow movie buffs (especially of the homosexual sort) if I were talking about grease-the-liquid when I say that, but I speak of the 1978 movie starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta.
Oh I have seen bits and pieces, it's really quite unavoidable (I would know, I have tried!), but a full-on straight-through sit-down til Sandy & Danny ride off on their hot-rod chariot into the sky? Nope. Five minutes of it gives me the hives and the heebie-jeebies, folks. Send your hate mail to, well, I guess to the comments of this post. Anyway it's Olivia Newton-John's 68th birthday today and we know our host Nathaniel's a big fan (and hey, I love that "Physical" video) so here's your Grease-themed "Beauty vs Beast." Also you could all probably come up with better Pros & Cons for each character than I could so feel free to share those in the comments... alongside your vitriol, of course...
PREVIOUSLY I have to say I am really proud of you guys for our last edition - in our face-off between Tommy Lee Jones and Best Supporting Actor winner Javier Bardem for No Country For Old Men, you bucked the Oscar trend and gave your prize to Tommy Lee with 55% of the vote. He gets my vote too. Said Nick T:
"Every single time I've watched this I've loved Tommy Lee Jones more and more. Ed Bell and Marge Gunderson would have the loveliest conversation."

When people tell me that they've never seen Grease and/or The Rocky Horror Picture Show, I feel sorry for them for neglecting TRHPS. Not so with Grease. All you need to watch is the beginning (through "Hopelessly Devoted to You") and end (from "Hand Jive"). The rest is...::shudder::
Team Sandy.
Team Rizzo! But lacking a Rizzo option, Team Sandy all the way. Danny is just a big greasy ball of nope.
I must have seen it 24 times or more.
Team Rizzo or Team Cha-Cha. Love my mean girls.
Oh, and Jason--if you'd seen it, you'd be pitting Sandy (Beauty?) vs. Rizzo (Beast?) and not Danny (Himbo). Which would make it a real competition with this crowd.
I have never seen Grease is there something wrong with me,I know the songs but everything about it fails to appeal.
I would also be Team Rizzo but in lieu of her as a choice I vote Sandy all the way.
As far as 30-something high-schoolers go, I'd rather hang with Rizzo!
4 times in the Movie Theater, plus I had the "picture book" with lyrics and thought bubbles (!), and of course the double album soundtrack! So, totally love this movie. The sequel is alright, but has no magic compared to this silly confection.
I'm on both sides, but was contrarian, and voted Team Danny. I do love the Bad Boy with the Heart of Gold. And where is the Team Lorenzo Lamas button? mmmm Athletic Supporters!
Team Rizzo as well though I voted for Sandy.
Now that you guys are all saying I wish do wish I'd had the contest be Sandy vs Rizzo. I think I have actually watched all of the Rizzo scenes, even if I've never seen the entire movie, because my love for Stockard is WAY STRONG. And you're probably right to say that would've been more of a contest with all y'all actressexuals.
But come on - TRAVOLTA was huge and celebrated once upon a time and I'm sure he has many lovers and defenders still, even if he's become a bit of....... well, a shadow of his former self, as of late.
Jason: I'd want to see what a "Beauty vs. Beast: Jack Terry vs. Terl" would look like.
Team Sandra Dee for ever .... but i actually think John Travolta is amazing in this era of his career.
Team Rizzo. It's best to vote for Stockard Channing in all things.
patty simcox for vice president! she's the most! to say the least!
but it would be disrespectful not to vote for olivia on
ourher birthdayThis is sort of how I feel about The Sound of Music. I don't need to watch it (even though I have at least once in the past.)
Team Sandy for Hopelessly Devoted to You and that outfit at the end but I have a soft spot for John Travolta's final note in Summer Nights because I can actually hit it when my drunk ass does karaoke.
