Okay

G: La La Land

I: Moonlight
D: Hell or High Water
A: Hidden Figures
C: Fences
E: Manchester by the Sea
H: Lion
B: Arrival

These were my guesses before I looked at the answers --

A) HIDDEN FIGURES
B) MANCHESTER BY THE SEA
C) HELL OR HIGH WATER
D) LION
E) MOONLIGHT
F) HACKSAW RIDGE
G) LA LA LAND
H) ARRIVAL
I) FENCES

I got 2-4 switched up but otherwise I did surprisingly well, especially given I haven't seen half of these in months!

I got four right, which is ridiculous because I've seen them all, but I must confess I didn't try very hard or long. The easy ones: Arrival, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Fences.

volvagia -- yeah, hacksaw ridge is the easiest.

jason -- good job. but i giggle that Manchester gets the "Quiet!" -- describing the movie, perhaps?

I got the 6 that I've seen. No idea about the last three.

January 27, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterAjnrules

And I am the exact oppostie of Ajnrules. Got the last 3 because those are the only ones I've seen, (or read the play). And Hacksaw Ridge, that seemed like a pretty likely first line for that movie.

Easy enough for the film I saw except for HIGH OR HELL WATER. That one along with the two I haven't seen HACKRIDGE and FENCES I had to guess and I got them ALL wrong.

January 27, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterRyan T.

Here were my guesses

A. Hidden Figures
B. Hell Or High Water
C. Lion
D. Hacksaw Ridge
E. Moonlight
F. Fences
G. La La Land
H. Arrival
I. Manchester By The Sea

I got 6/9.

January 27, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterConMan

6 here too. Got Moonlight/Hell/Manchester mixed around.

January 27, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterteppo2

La La Land is the easiest, then Hacksaw. I've seen all these films but I still couldn't get them all right. I got La La Land, Hacksaw Ridge, Hidden Figures, Arrival and Fences.

You should totally make opening lines/closing lines quizzes into a regular thing Nathaniel. This was fun.

I got 2 right, and one of those was La La Land, which was pretty easy. Feeling kind of ashamed of myself right now...

I'm impressed with how well some of you did. I wonder how i would have done.no way to know since i was typing them up and they seem obvious when you're watching but probably not out of context. especially the more generic first lines like LION and MOONLIGHT

January 27, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterNATHANIEL R

I got all of them! Was only really sure about Hidden Figures, La La Land, Arrival, and Fences (even though I've seen all of the nominees except Hacksaw Ridge), but guessed right on the others. It helped that I'd seen LION super-recently.

Funny, I don't remember that line from Manchester at all.

Also, I thought Hell or High Water could have been B, C, or F but remembered it opened with a bank robbery so figured "Quiet!" made the most sense. (though C might have, too.)

lylee: I remembered the that Chris Pine's character was "the man with the plan" and Ben Foster was an impulsive idiot, so I guessed D for Hell or High Water. Also: God doesn't really come up in Hell or High Water, in spite of it being partially about grief in Texas.
