Is Aaron Taylor-Johnson a star? I couldn't tell you anything he's done, beyond Nocturnal Animals. If they wanted to give it to a star, they'd have gone with Bridges. It seems they just really, really liked the film.
I was rooting for MAHERSHALA ALI , but I`m not upset at all with Aaron win ( he`s quite something in Nocturnal Animals and the movie is just great) ..... Love when the Globes go against common opinion. Bridges, really ? The best in scene in Hell or High Water is Chris Pine and he wasn`t even nominated.
Viola just won her Oscar.
Why can't Viola Davis be nominated in Best Actress?
Atlanta is not really a comedy, in the ha-ha sort of way.
But it is utterly brilliant.
And Zazie Beetz - why the fuck wasn't she nominated?! -deserves to become a huge star!
And, of course, Sarah Paulson derserved to win as well, for her nuanced and sharp work as Marcia Clark.
The Aaron Taylor Johnson-win is ridiculous.

The only reason he got nominated is because it's makes for great TV - to have the ex-lovers Emma Stone and him in the same room.

I haven't seen The Night Manager but have heard great things, particularly for Olivia Colman (who is always good, a truly great underrated actress).
Oh man, the La La Land-backlash has already been building for some time - but the backlash will only become bigger and bigger when the movie sweeps all the Globes and all the Oscars.
Not just backlash for Emma Stone, but also for Chazelle, and the movie.
We've seen it so many times before - a movie, a filmmaker, an actor
is applauded and hyped during early award-buzz,
but as the movie/actor/director win more and more prizes, the inevitable "overrated"-monster will rear its ugly head.
I'm admittedly not a fan of La La Land, but that screenplay is not the best screenplay by any means. Thin characters, no stakes ... I mean, no. Just no. Moonlight should've taken that.
While I agree that Moonlight and MbtS are better screenplays, I think La La Land's screenplay is actually quite good.
I enjoyed La La Land immensely, but that screenplay had no business winning, particularly over that of Moonlight. If anything, it's a triumph of directing over most of its other parts, including the music itself.
I predicted Hiddleston and I'm still surprised. Can't believe The Night Manager snatched three Globes for acting.
May I just say that Paul Verhoeven's speech after winning the foreign language film Golden Globe and singling out Isabelle Huppert was to me already a major win for la reine Isabelle.
Also, the Steve Carrell/Kristen Wiig bit was the first hilarious moment in the program.
Riz Ahmed or Courtney B. Vance should've had that. Ugh.

Those Kristen Wigg and Steve Carrell stories about seeing an animated movie for the first time had me cracking up. They should have been hosting instead of bland Fallon.

The Night Manager put me to sleep...and The Crown is yet more award pandering to British actors. Hollywood thinks people with a British accent makes them more sophisticated and better somehow.

Suzanne: He was Kick-Ass and MCU Quicksilver (though not great, still a better performance than Fox's version, but without the showy "Time in a Bottle" moment from Days of Future Past), but I don't necessarily like that we're probably going to have to add "Academy Award Nominated" behind his name after this year.

Paul Outlaw: I'm watching The Crown. It's good enough, writing wise, for it's type of thing, but Matt Smith is really not on his A-game here and the visual approach is VERY 2010s in the worst way.
OMG! Meryl Streep was perfect.
Streep's speech was pitch perfect. There's so much to be said for her performances over the years, but I just want to appreciate her commitment to social justice.
Did anyone notice how the text in the Meryl Streep clip package said that she's been nominated for 18 Oscars? How on earth did they make that mistake?

Very interesting that Huppert won. So it's most likely Huppert vs Stone for the Best Actress Oscar statue. Portman was viewed early on as a strong contender, but now it seems like am honour to be nominated. I would surmise that Negga and Adams could take the remaining slots. What do you think will happen if Viola sneaks in to this category?
Anyhow I am happy for this result as I like when new blood wins the award.
I've been saying for some time that Huppert was a lock for a nomination. I think this makes the race for winner more interesting, though.
Of course Brie is pissed off at Affleck's win - she's a feminist - and if Affleck
did what he's accused off, then she's intitled to be pissed off all she wants.
But since we don't know for sure he's guilty, she should cool it.
