Nicole Kidman for Aquaman?

The Aussie goddess, most recently spotted defying fashion rules with parrots at the SAG Awards, maybe should have worn seahorses instead? She's in talks to play Atlanna in Aquaman (due October 2018). For those of you who don't know -- I wasn't a DC kid growing up so I also didn't know this -- Atlanna is the mother of Aquaman. Never mind that Nicole Kidman is only 12 years older than Jason Momoa, you know how Hollywood do. (If you've been following along, previously she was supposed to be Wonder Woman's mother but that didn't work out.)

Comic books are always rewriting their own histories so who knows if this is considered true anymore or was true for any longer than five minutes but from my understanding Aquaman is only half human, from the father's side, while she's more of an underwater goddess sea-dweller and Queen the way Triton was King in The Little Mermaid. If Kidman is going to be stuck playing supporting moms from now on, we hope she collects a big paycheck and they go really crazy with her underwater couture.

Kidman has a good role on the HBO miniseries Big Little Lies. I read the book and there are juicy women roles.

The parrots are (kind of) growing on me. I'm almost ready to like them.

As long as she doesn't wear Dolphins on her shoulders ...

There is a reason it's DC. Some Marvel director hates her after her senseless remark. Another omen for DC.

@Truth, Which director?

February 1, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterYavor

If she wears that costume, then YES obviously.
Wasn't Angelina Jolie only 5 years older than Colin Farrel in Alexander?
(not that anyone really remember that movie *lol*)

Dammit, now I'll have to see Aquaman.
*praying the movie is like the golden compass*

But 2017 for Kidman, folks!
Big Little Lies
Top of the Lake S2
Killing of a Sacred Deer
The Beguiled
How to Talk to Girls at Parties

The projects, the directors!! SO EXCITED!

Let's just be real, Nicole looks like a mythical creature in that dress. Love it or hate it, it is already a classic.
I hope Joss Whedon who criticized Nicole for her remark in the ugliest most unfunny way gets boycotted by Hollywood. While her remark was not the savviest approach in a time where such issues are highly charged and sensitive, his remarks were downright sexist and inappropriate.

The Avengers.

I imagine Aquaman's mom will appear in a flashback. If I remember correctly, it was very much a Little Mermaid narrative-- forbidden love with a surface dweller that ended tragically.

I don't know her. If I had a dollar for every random career noodle she throws against the wall to see what might stick. Let's support our President, blah, blah, blah. Welcome to insanity.

I wish half the people who have decided to set her on fire just see that interview. I don't think what she said was pro-Trump. It was the same as what hilary Clinton said, he is the president, we need to move forward and also she said she is more concerned the issues that need to be addressed ,I mean seriously.
And this was all before all the crazy Trump hoopla. Give the lady a break.

This is what mccounaghey said, he said as divisive as he is we need to embrace that fact.where's the lynch mob there?

Don't just trust what you read on your twitter feed or tabloid news headlines.

lynch mob? Nicole Kidman is attending fashion shows and taking paycheck from DC, and you're sorry that she's getting lynched. Are you crazy? It's those Muslim foreigners that are getting lynched.

February 2, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPhill

@Phill - Can i say that you've taken this thing out of context, I am in no way pro- Trump, not the slightest. But for journalists/bloggers to pick lines out of context and then bash a person is Trump- esque in its own right. Things get out of hand when everyone turns into bullies when they dont hear what they want to. This is a film blog, i'm commenting about the online hate spewing about the actress referenced by a few people commenting on this blog entry. To see my view on other things, look me up on the CNN website :P

You know that under water you sometimes look "bloated".... oh... never mind.

Nicole speaking out the way she did wasn't a savvy move on her part. I said the same thing (well, in November, before he started announcing his cabinet member picks). And more public figures--who haven't been admonished like she has--have said as much of the same. She probably doesn't even watch the news. That doesn't excuse her, but, to still hold it against her? I think there are bigger fish to fry. I guess we all choose our battles ...

At any rate, this is a D.C. film, and they tend to flop. The cast, director, and screenwriter do not instil much confidence. I liked The Conjuring, though. I hope for Kidman's sake, it's a hit. But, it sounds like it stands a good chance at becoming a steaming pile of ... something ...

I hope she uses the paycheck to foot the bill of another slate of projects like the one she has for 2017.

Nicole Kidman is 100% suitable for this role and her acting on Aquaman is brilliant. She looks like a mythical creature and adorable in that dress.
