According to Wikipedia, the singer Tom Jones -born Thomas John Woodward- was renamed by his manager to "exploit the popularity of the Academy Award-winning 1963 film."

Loved the podcast! I just watched one of the outrageously bad Liz & Dick movies. Boom! from 1968. It has a screenplay by Tennessee Williams and consists mostly of the two stars yelling at each other.
