McCarthy and Haddish Team Up!
Chris here. Even if the Oscar buzz comparisons to Melissa McCarthy didn't yield Tiffany Haddish the same happy result, all that talk maybe did align their stars together. The two funny ladies just signed on to star together in mob movie The Kitchen. Now before we prime ourselves for a comedy goldmine, this project will actually be something of a curve ball for both actresses...
The film, to be written and directed by Straight Outta Compton's Andrea Berloff from the comic by the same name, will feature McCarthy and Haddish as mobster wives that take over the business after their partner husbands are jailed. That's right, this 1970s Hell's Kitchen-set saga will take the comediennes into drama territory. While it's tempting to shed tears over lost laughs, the pairing of the two together in any project is too enticing to complain so early.
Haddish has been lining up several projects since her Girls Trip smash last summer, including a potential partnership with Paul Thomas Anderson. This coming fall might provide a dramatic showcase for McCarthy with Marielle Heller's Can You Ever Forgive Me?, though her comedic work has had its shades of sadness. Now this project might sound a bit like Steve McQueen's coming Widows on the surface, but this will be an interesting one to watch develop. There is also a third female lead to cast in the crime saga - is there another comedy queen we want to team up with Haddish and McCarthy?

Seems a waste to feature these two talented comediennes in a crime drama but I'll keep an open mind.
This project sounds like........ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Margaret Cho!
I’m not convinced that this won’t be comedic. Opposite, I’d bet money this will be.
Barbra Streisand! She duetted with Melissa and Tiffany introduced her to Cardi B. And Streisand seems open to returning to work given the latest news from Ryan Murphy.
Some coworkers and I were talking about the Clue reboot Ryan Reynolds was doing, and I wanted McCarthy as Miss Peacock and Haddish as Miss Scarlett. So I feel like I had a direct hand in this somehow.
Haddish was never gonna get that Oscar nom though.
Umm, isn't this the plot of WIDOWS?
Glenn - I think WIDOWS has more of a heist element? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This seems like a prime Penelope Cruz role. Those are three women I need together on-screen, just to see what happens.
I'd like to say Lisa Kudrow but maybe Sarah Silverman?
good work, keep it up!
What a beautiful world it would be if Lisa Kudrow got leading parts in movies ..... Or a great supporting one giving her some Allison Janney's heat. I keep hoping !
How about Hollywood put its #TimesUp money where its mouth is and cast one of the #MeToo actresses like, say, Mira Sorvino.
