Film Bitch Awards Pt 1 - Oscar Correlative Crafts

Had hoped to meter these out as we usually do but time ran out and here we are at Oscar weekend. So herewith the Film Bitch nominations in all the Oscar correlative categories (plus one as we have two "Score" categories since there are largely two types used for movies these days). The acting categories are the only thing not completed yet but they'll hopefully be up tonight. Blade Runner 2049 and Get Out are the leaders thus far with 6 and 5 nominations respectively.

I'm disappointed that Call Me by Your Name wasn't in consideration for costume design. I think the film does a great job of evoking the 80's without resorting to being "costumy." When I think of the film the clothes immediately come to mind and the looks are kind of iconic now in a way--Chalamet in his striped blue polo and Hammer in his billowy shirt.
Very disappointed not to see Your Name. or Loving Vincent as even semi-finalists for Best Animated Film. The Girl Without Hands was also excellent.
Surprised there's so much love for The Beguiled but not even a top 10 mention for cinematography which I thought was its strongest aspect. Mixed thoughts on the film but gorgeous, effective and brilliantly moody and gothic cinematography. Looked like a painting half the time.
ken -- i HATED Loving Vincent. Unfortunately i did not see the others.
AlexD -- i was desperate for a bit more light in Beguiled. I felt like i couldnt see anything.
HATED? Wow.
Could it be a theatre issue? The cinematography was definitely dark and gothic but I didn't have a problem at all watching what was on screen. Hmmm.
Also LOVE the Get Out shutout in Sound

I love these! I was sort of hoping Wonderstruck might appear more.. production design, perhaps? I guess I was the only that loved that movie.
AlexD: I'd imagine it was more than a theatre issue. Even some people who like the movie admit that the plot is uninspired and the voice acting/casting is...dodgy. The gimmick is cool, but that's all it sounds like it had going for it.
AlexD: Should have read closer. Maybe it was. Still, in terms of hating Loving Vincent? Not hard to understand based on what I've heard.
Love the love throughout these for Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird, Frantz, and Atomic Blonde.I always appreciate your dedication to expanding the "what's worthy" conversation beyond the same small set of films that dominate conversations this time of year.
