Remember Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day? It opened 10 years ago on this very day starring newly crowned (again) Best Actress Frances McDormand and Amy Adams. All I remember about it actually is Shirley Henderson's high pitched voice and Amy Adams flouncing around before breaking my heart by singing a duet with the scrumptious Lee Pace...
Incidentally Lee Pace is now officially "out" as a member of the LGBT community (the B part) clarifying cagey remarks he made earlier which upset various fans (including myself). All is forgiven since he ended this statement with a gif of Missy Elliott. Yaaas.
But back to the movie.
It occurs to me, looking at McDormand's perpetually stunned expression in photos from that film that she was seeing the future whilst filming. She now has two Oscars and Amy Adams has none.
That IS a shock, Miss Pettigrew. Agreed!

Anyway, I've just seen a picture of Amy Adams in a fat suit playing an American politician in the Cheney movie and I'm already excited for the next season to begin.

I keep thinking about Tilda Swinton in Julia lately. If McDormand had been cast in that film, would she have won her second Oscar years ago? If Swinton had been cast in Billboards, would they have just ignored her again? (Rhetorical questions.)
Julia (2008) is a terrible movie. Because TS is an alien people were impressed by her playing such a trash and stupid character.

It's obvious he made the whole post as an excuse to mock her. Petty, tiresome and tacky.
I like the love interest's appropriate ages. Pace is actually 5 years younger than Adams, while Ciaran Hinds is only four years older than McDormand.
Thanks for this post - I love Miss Pettigrew. I've rewatched it several times. Everyone in it does delightful work.

Julia is a great movie, and would be even without Tilda (but is better because of Tilda)
3rtful with the typical antagonistic shade,Adams is looking like BA stuff in the Cheny film currently called The Backseat.
How was this not a favorite at the Golden Globes?
I was *just* talking about this movie on Sunday with a guy on Grindr! Glad others remember it with as much fondness...
(and I, for one, am glad for /3rtful's presence - I've never found anyone else who agreed with me on Julia!)
I remember reading about how the director of Miss Pettigrew had to tell Amy Adams to stop staring at Lee Pace when they were off camera. She said she just couldn't help getting entranced, he was so wonderful, the way he looked, the way he moved, the way talent just spilled out of him.
Another thing I love about the amazing Amy. So talented herself, so recognizing of the gifts of others.
This was an underrated movie, so was amy's performance.
I remember seeing this and thinking "They just don't make 'em like this anymore," and while not really a GREAT film, it's true. We get so few period farces, with roles clearly tailored to specific performers, and that are so fleet of foot. I love it so!
It's very hard to forget a movie as delightful as this one. (Especially when it has Lee Pace looking unbelievably attractive in it.)
Amy Adams makes musical comedy look so easy and gets no nominations as a consequence (think this and "Enchanted"). I hope that her performance alongside Christian Bale (one more time after "American Hustle") will get them both Oscar nominations for "The Backseat" once again!
