"Sharp Objects" Teases

by Nathaniel R

Mmmmmhow we love a good teaser. One that tells you almost nothing about the movie or tv series other than an overal mood so as to preserve / prolong the pre-release excitement. Here comes the eight hour miniseries Sharp Objects starring Amy Adams and Patty Clarkson, two of the best actresses in the business, the latter of whom hasn't had a high profile great part in way too long...

Adams is a troubled reporter investigating the murder of two young girls in her hometown. Patricia Clarkson plays her estranged hypochondriac mother.

Jean-Marc Vallée, who everyone must know by now, is just brilliant with actors,  might be tempting fate by directing another female led murder mystery miniseries starring Oscar darlings so soon on the heels of the mega-success Big Little Lies. Neverthless we wish him well because if he and Amy succeed, here, truly we all win!

This is based on the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name, her third novel to be interpreted for film (after the brilliant hit Gone Girl and the little discussed flop Dark Places). Unless we're mistaken she didn't have much of a hand in the writing of the miniseries (barring the first hour) but thankfully she didn't give up screenwriting after acing her first try at it with Gone Girl . We continue to be pissed that  she wasn't Oscar nominated for translating her own book so superbly for a different medium. Her next screenplay is the female crime drama Widows (2018) starring genius Viola Davis and directed by the inimitable Steve McQueen (Hunger, Shame, 12 Years a Slave).

It's an orgy of clichés.

Did Amy decide to go for the Emmy instead of losing next year again.

The source material is her best book imo and this has a much better cast than any the adaptations thus far.

Lamy looks miscast af.

Will only watch for Miss Patty.

July.. Hmmm.. Issit in time for this yr Emmy?? When's the cut off?

Clark on needs a great script - she is so talented. I am a little tired of Miss Amy being cast in everything from film to TV.

Mark: Lol. The only thing Amy appeared in last year was Justice League for maybe 10 min. She has exactly one tv show and one movie scheduled this year. Honestly, how little do you want her to work?

Hmm, from the trailer, they will tone down the book. In the book, the amy adams character has the whole skin covered with scars. She cant be around sharp objects that she starts cutting herself. And in the trailer, she shows plenty of undamaged skin.

Nevertheless, I feel hopeful. I am a fan of Valle since C.R.A.Z.Y. And he is in a ball lately!

Patty's the only lure here.

I like Amy fine but after reading the book, I think she is miscast. Hope for the best though.

Happy to see Patricia Clarkson get another high-profile part.

Amy Adams doesn't bother me, but I don't understand the fascination with her. She's nondescript.

Clarkson started a comeback last year with a very underrated yet fascinating supporting turn in House of Cards, and a sharp performance in Sally Potter's The Party.

I really hope Sharp Object's brings her everything Big Little Lies brought to Laura Dern.

And, even if i know i'm in the minority on FilmExperience, i can't get enough of Amy Adams.

Looks great! Although from memory - wasn’t the main character meant to be 27?

Stop the hatin on Amy Adams pls. She’s a brilliant actress and I can’t wait to see her embody this part. And I think the character of Camille is suppose to be in her early 30s.

I don't understand the hatred for Amy Adams. She's one of our best working actresses, and has been so for well over a decade. Why does she get under everyone's skin so much?

April 25, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterAmir

I don't understand the Amy Adams hate. Seriously, if anything the past couple years she's been extremely choosy about her projects and isn't nearly working as much as during her heyday 2007 - 2013.

I'm looking forward to this. Jean-Marc Vallee worked wonders out of the miniseries Big Little Lies, so hopefully magic can strike twice.

The July release date is giving me pause...why would they not premiere it in May?

April 25, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterMichael R

Amy Adams - she's just so bland and it shows in her acting.
